Territorial claims in South China Sea

China will continue to "chope" the reefs, Philippines can only LLST, and possibly will try to drag Uncle Sam in.

There will be a clash sooner or later.

There WAS military clash over SCS dispute. Back in the 1988 and it ended within 48 hours.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnson_South_Reef_Skirmish

Question is can all parties prevent another skirmish after the Hague's judgement while ensuring the conflict do not spread across Asia.

Or has the court case make things worst ?

If big bully comes and claim your lunch box, what can you do ?

Give lor. Then go hungry till night better than having blue black lol

I used to think so too about Uncle Sam's might is right and the order it seems to provide.

Like Saddam was the bad guy and George W Bush was good moral and security reasons to go after him.

I have grown up since.

I have to agree on this. USA are not saint neither. Best country will be switzerland, always remain neutral lol

Wont be clash. Usa not so obsessed to side with ph. At most status will remain the same. China will continue ti occupy the islands, ph cant do anything call international court for justice, international court cant do anything against china and usa also don't dare to agitate china.

I don't think any one will believe Uncle Sam wants to shed its own blood over some rocks that it has no claim to.

Rather, it prefer smaller countries to do its bidding.

Else US won't change its law to sell weapon to Vietnam just last month and pushing Japan to join in the fry

Helps to muddle the dispute, create mistrust and increase its arms export to this region.

The fact is, those countries that occupied others land are now saying such claims are illegal, hahaha. They should set example by first leaving the lands they have occupied for so many years.

They are also the same culprits that split up people country to ensure they are small and divided for better control. Whilst, they called themselves United or a Kingdom/Union. Isn't that a joke?

This is the real no bull shit question.

Russia, China, USA.

The 3 countries that can really play the big game here.

We can say all are no angels.

WHO is the biggest devil?

WHO is the biggest threat now?

It ain't the USA.

Is been overwhelmingly good for us for decades.

The new guy has really messed things up over the last 10 year.

Another major earthquake is coming soon and mother nature will decide who owns the islets by moving them away or diminishing them totally.

The pinoys didn't do this at Hainan island right???

The Chinese installations were so far from China as nearer to Philippines that i can't understand how the Chinese can say with a straight face the island rightfully belonged to them..

It doesn't help that ang mohs have been thinking that Singapore is in/part of China.

So, China took this opportunity=> "South China Sea" and ang mohs' misconception that Singapore is China to lay claim on those atolls and islets lor... which are far closer to China than SG to CN. [laugh]

Where is our Christmas Island?

两国实力相当,外交就是力量;

两国实力悬殊,力量就是外交

hard truth

it's been like that in the past 1000 years... it will be like that in the next 1000 years

Who started the massive landfills ? Who built military installations on the previously uninhabited atolls, who tried all ways n means to prove the SC sea as their own lake? Who tried to go round the world to buy support for their claim in the SC sea? Who unilaterally imposed the ADIZ over the east china sea without informing all air users ? Who started this shit in the first place recently??

The SC sea does hv competing claims since tens of years ago, but the claimants didn't go about doing landfills n building airstrips.. They didn't impose their nine dash line..they didn't send their warship-like coast guard to far away places to ram other countries ships n save their illegally fishing boats..

If they didn't start getting bolder n being a big bully just bec they have more money now to buy more military toys, the status quo would have remained , n the Philippines would not have sued China to the court..

Kudos to Philippines for having the balls to bring this Chinese bully to task (while having uncle Sam's big stick behind their back).. ASEAN was a wimp which couldn't even agree to a statement condemning China for the land grab in the recent meeting, no thanks to the Chinese grease on these poor countries politicians palms..

By the same logic, Guam, Saipan should not belong to the U.S. ? Falkland should not belong to the U.K. ?

Got read news or not leh ?

The ruling did not even award any territories to anyone, what it is saying is that the "islands" claimed are not islands but are reefs (which PRC and ROC disagrees). Because they are only reefs, there are not maritime rights over the surrounding sea - which is the 9-line boundaries set by PRC (or the U-shape boundary set by ROC). It also say it violate Philippines fisherman rights, and harming the corals, not territorial rights.

The ruling is as good as never say. And a Japanese judge ? Really ? From the Chinese perspective (whether PRC or ROC), this is like Mukden Incident all over again. In case you need to google, "The Mukden Incident, was a staged event engineered by Japanese military personnel as a pretext for the Japanese invasion in 1931 of northeastern China, known as Manchuria.". This is also where the Japanese cut off ROC's supply lines and forced the Allies to build the Burmese highway from India into China.

To the US, it is making sure its Asia Pacific front line stays intact. The entire Pacific Ocean (also known as the Spanish Lake) is in the US control, and they want it to stay intact - whoever controls this area controls international trade, much as the Spanish did in the 17-18th century before the Dutch, British and US came into play. As the longest running continental power, China is a newbie in maritime powers, this is the first time China is in the race for maritime power balance and has nothing to do with claims on island, but control over the waterway.

Cant use the same logic. Guam and Saipan are real islands with human settlements before USA took control of it during WW2. Falklands has argentine, spanish and other human settlement even before Britain took it over. The PRC claims over 'islands' that are underwater during hightide and started to landfill and militarise this 'islands' just to justify their claims.

We should really tip toe out of this, nothing to do with us.

If we need to send tributes to China to survive, I think we should (disclaimer: this is just a joke). No one will protect us when a nuke comes our direction.

Peace all [laugh]

I'm referring to the comment about islands being "far". So what gave the US and British rights to occupy islands already settled by humans ? Ownself give ownself ? How far away are they from their invaders ?

bro....PRC claim over an island which actually is not an island...

not until they started reclaiming the island and militarising it! USA took over Guam during WW2 and Britain the Falklands slowly turned to Britain as their rulers. The point is what constitute the term 'islands'...Guam, Saipan and Falklands are islands but what PRC claims are not and they go and reclaim the sea and claim it to be theirs.

While neither country are angels, PRC's has a longer history of govt sanctioned supression, extrajudicial arrests, (and the list goes on) in modern times than US.

Guess who is still blocking facebook, twitter, gmail etc. And who is still censoring sensitive democracy related words on the internet?

Every year, near the Tiananmen anniversary, there will bound be some activist who disappear for a few weeks.

Heck, PRC agents even abducts a HK bookseller who holds Swedish citizenship who is critical of the PRC govt, when the bookseller is in Thailand.

It's true that US CIA also conducts operations to abduct suspected or known terrorist in foreign land. But there's a whole world of difference between an international terrorist and a bookseller whose 'crime' is merely speaking out against the PRC govt.

And at least the US govt is still accountable (no matter how small it is) to their own citizens, unlike PRC commies, totally no accountability.
