Some countries they have thin skin. Easily provoke and threaten to escalate things if don't have their way.

According to the peaceful proponents is to cede to their behaviour.

Philippines says Beijing blocked, used water cannon on boat in South China Sea

b30115d7bbeda157f12e10117dc87c7d10f49309

The Philippines on Sunday (Aug 6) accused China's coast guard of blocking and water-cannoning a Philippine military supply boat in the South China Sea, condemning the "excessive and offensive actions" against its vessels.

China claims sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea, an assertion rejected internationally, while Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan and the Philippines have various claims to certain areas. Beijing often irks its neighbours with maritime actions they call aggressive and with longer-term activities like building islands on reefs and equipping them with missiles and runways.

A Chinese coast guard vessel on Saturday blocked and water-cannoned the chartered Philippine boat on a routine troop rotation and resupply mission, "in wanton disregard of the safety of the people on board and in violation of international law", the Armed Forces of the Philippines said.

It said in a statement the incident occurred near the Second Thomas Shoal, which Manila calls Ayungin Shoal, a submerged reef where a handful of its troops live on a rusty World War II-era US ship that was intentionally grounded in 1999.

The Chinese coast guard's "dangerous manoeuvres" prevented a second boat from unloading the supplies and completing the mission, it said.

The Chinese embassy in Manila did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"We call on the China Coast Guard and the Central Military Commission to act with prudence and be responsible in their actions to prevent miscalculations and accidents that will endanger people's lives," the armed forces said.

The Philippine Coast Guard said the Chinese actions violated laws, including two international conventions and a ruling from a global tribunal.

Why no one complain US navy?

Answer need to zoom back to pre WW2. Back then,  there's basically only regional... not GLOBAL... trade.  You lucky if your ship reach without being molested by any of many regional powers. It's an economic shackle on many countries.

After WW2, there's only ONE navy worth talking about. That's the US navy. It became world policeman,  anyone's cargo ships essentially can go anywhere with minimum fear of  state sanctioned piracy, even the Soviets bought into it. Any country that fxxked around with it had carriers on its doorsteps.

Globalization was born. And the world experienced a period of peace and growth like never ever before.

Asia Pacific grew because the US navy maintained... ENFORCED ..  peace and oil tankers.  And yes,  Singapore is successful because NOBODY  dared do a naval blockade,  not because LKY SAF is magnificent. Hence Singapore had carrier berths at LKY instructions.

And now, every country in apec except north Korea and China desperately wants the US navy to remain engaged.

But the problem now is the US past several presidents have shown signs of disengaging 😳

Important thing is they are aware they are living in the designated area and give ample warning. Apparently it seems those prc not all were evacuated timely.

Malaysia PM says China gave reassurance after map stirred South China Sea dispute

2023-09-23t065647z_1_lynxmpej8m01q_rtrop

Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said China had given an assurance that it would continue to negotiate with Southeast Asian countries over disputed territorial claims in the South China Sea, and avoid actions that risked escalation. Speaking to CNN in an interview broadcast on Saturday (Sep 23), Anwar said Chinese Premier Li Qiang gave him the assurance after Beijing released a map with a "10-dash line" last month that appeared to expand its claims in the disputed waters.

Malaysia and several other Southeast Asian countries have rejected the map.

Anwar said Li was "clear and categorical" in saying that China would continue to negotiate and not "exercise any action that would explode or cause dissension with our colleagues, our friends in the region."

"That was very reassuring," Anwar told CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour.

Anwar said Malaysia remained concerned over escalating tensions as China sought to assert its sovereignty claims over Taiwan, adding that both parties needed to avoid "unnecessary provocations" that can affect the region.
