Perhaps, I should have qualified my statement by differentiating between the commercial and natural world when I use the word *mercenary* which seemed taboo to some. It is obvious that there are still some nice things the world offers without hidden obligations. As regard pessimism, I would rather discourage anyone to live a life of a pessimist as it isn't beneficial nor should it be the way one should live one's live but with optimism and enthusiasm so that life can be meaningful and fulfilling.
