May 25 (Bloomberg) -- At 4.09 a.m. on May 12, Chinese national Ma Chi sped through a Singapore stop light in his $1.4 million Ferrari 599 GTO and slammed into a taxi, killing himself and two others and sparking a wave of anti-foreigner sentiment.

The crash, caught on camera by another cab and viewed more than 7 million times on the Internet, prompted ministers to try to defuse public anger over immigration policies and the rising wealth gap that caused the ruling party

Of the 122,600 jobs created in Singapore last year, about 70 percent, or 84,800 positions, went to foreigners.

Wow, that's a really high number!

70% is a high figure. Damn, why didn't bloomberg publish this article sooner? Then the WP can take this up during the rally

Thats not a good reply, cos people will ask... why waste so much time and money to develop the economy to create jobs that the locals arent interested in. That's poor policy right? [:p]

So damn tired of these political correct rebuttals. Why cant they for once said something as it is?

If they called a spade a spade, they would've been voted out a long time ago.

just to be fair, they could be including jobs such as cleaners, construction workers etc in that number (jobs that most singaporeans generally shun)... since they dont disclose whether they are referring to low skill jobs, blue collar or white collar, they are asking us to assume (and most of us will naturally assume the worst, i suppose)

You pay bus drivers 3000/mth.. see whether got Singaporeans apply or not..

All these start from the day when someone high up decide that those who can study are best suited for high earning jobs and start to give out scholarships to reiterate their stand.. from then on, all these unskilled/semi-skilled jobs are looked down upon..

We are partly to blame for so many foreigners as well.

When suggest reduce headcount by clearing our own plate at foodcourt, people complain the food they pay include the cleaners, & doesn't benefit them

When suggest pump own petrol, reduce headcount same argument.

Pay higher & recruit Singaporean in F&B. People say do not want to pay for the extra cost.

Complain bus & MRT, city area full of maids & construction workers. Are people suggesting they do not go out on the only day of break. When considered that most people work 5 days week.

& why so many of these people, because most Singaporeans do not wat to do construction, and many family cannot do without maids.

maybe you are right, but you cannot ignore that our tiny Island is getting more & more crowded, and at an alarming rate.

i want but store manager in a shop is 6 days and low pay.

Long long ago, i applied for store manager for Hang 10. I was told to work 6 days, need to meet sales target (although no commission) and probation is 9 freaking mths!!

this kind of job has no life. Iam a local born here...i sld be having all rounded life. Only foreigners can accept such conditions cos their purpose is to slog and save the money, end of the day go back and become richer.
