sometime, it is cheaper to change the rotor than skim.

my NEW rotor per pair cost S$160. Installation S$40. Total S$200.

Skim cost at least S$50 and above for per pair. And how long can it last?

Its more economical in the long run to get a new rotor. Skimmed rotors dont last long and before you know it, you have to change it again. Besides, Singapore mechs workmanship sucks and the skimmed rotor probably wont be flat still. Buy the rotors yourself from the parts suppliers to save some money.

how long did you waited for them to skim?

Buy new ones ~ $200

Skim old ones ~ $50

I think it is better to recycle old ones to save the earth's resources. :D

Best is NOT to skim..... It's not good.

But if u plan to get rid of the car soon, then skim it. But if u want to keep the car long term, change new rotor

MY 0.02cts,

If its jap / korean car, intend to drive ard next 8-16 mths, juz skim it and drive, but have to take notice of dust built-up.

If its Conti car, best to have two consultation advise from reliable sources, i.e: Ad and workshops specialises in Alf, Bmw.Merc & VW, Audis.

Best to change rotor blade once and for all, an average of 4 to 4half yrs usage is a good gauge, of course driving style / handling prevails . . .

Don't believe in skimming the rotor, get a new set and remember to change the pads together.

U may be rite, many workshops mechanic chose the easier way out by asking you to change this/ tt, towards the end of d day, you are the owner, best to decides wad is best for your own needs.

I chose to ignore it after much consideration on the expanded cost / mechanic reliability, instead I changed nly the brake pad, no major problem so far, I still monitoring the rotor, no squelling sounds and noise generated so far, pretty good results for my E200 AG, bt we nvr know . . do we ?

it should be S$200 per new rotor? i paid S$51 for skimming of 2 rotors. a guy came in a van, picked up the rotors, and when i came back 2 hours later, they were installed on my car.

it is grinding a thin layer of the rotors off. when you pressed the brakes...the brake pads contacts the rotors, and in the process of slowing down the car, a thin layer of the rotor is grind off. So do you change your rotors every time you pressed your brakes? [rolleyes]

most workshop can settle this. those workshop men have eagle eye. i sent my car for svcing and without removing anything, they said my rotors need work. what they do is take it out and send somewhere to do. within 3 hrs, job done.
