Thats why even with our dirty trash burning electricity plant still cleaner than a 1.6l hatchback with SGD20k VES rebate.

Kalashnikov aims to add EVs alongside AK-47s

MUNICH -- Kalashnikov JSC, maker of the AK-47 assault rifle, is the latest entry into the crowded electric-vehicle race that's drawn a range of tech entrepreneurs, makers of vacuum cleaners as well as the world's biggest car companies.

The most recent EV, presented in baby-blue and dubbed the CV-1, comes with a retro design that echoes the Soviet Union's Izh-Kombi, a car popular in the 1970s. Kalashnikov showed off the car, with a claimed 350 kilometer driving range (217 miles), at an arms fair in Moscow this week.

The CV-1 will help Kalashnikov enter the ranks of electric-car producers like Tesla and become a competitor, the manufacturer told news agency RIA Novosti. Kalashnikov has been trying to expand its brand, adding shops to sell its clothing line and other civilian accessories.

The CV-1’s battery, which weighs 50 kilograms and has a capacity of 90 kW/h, is powered by an inverter developed by Kalashnikov, the company said in a release. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in six seconds.

With EVs gaining popularity, new companies are vying to enter the sector alongside established manufacturers such as Volkswagen Group, Daimler and BMW. Many produce a prototype but struggle to overcome funding constraints and managing a highly complex supply chain and production process to profitably make cars.

Among the more advanced new hopefuls is China's NIO, filing for a potential $1.8 billion listing on the New York stock exchange. Others include Apple and Sony, which has hinted at getting into “moving objects” and Dyson, the vacuum cleaner maker, which surprised everyone nearly a year ago when itunveiled plans to build an EV by 2020, putting one billion pounds ($1.3 billion) behind the effort.

Kalashnikov did not provide details about production or sales plans for the CV-1.

INFINITI will offer mix of BEV and e-POWER vehicles from 2021; 50% of global sales by 202517 January 2018

INFINITI Motor Company will introduce new vehicles with electrified powertrains from 2021, said Nissan Chief Executive Officer Hiroto Saikawa at the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit. INFINITI will offer a mix of pure electric vehicles (EV) and e-POWER series hybrid vehicles (earlier post), demonstrating the full range of low-emission vehicle technology available to INFINITI as the premium brand of Nissan Motor Company.

Nissan’s e-POWER borrows from the EV technology in the Nissan LEAF. Unlike the all-battery-electric powertrain of the LEAF, e-POWER adds a small gasoline engine to charge the high-output battery when necessary, eliminating the need for an external charger while offering the same high-output. Nissan says that although e-POWER uses a much smaller battery than the LEAF, it delivers the same driving experience as a full EV.

Saikawa said that INFINITI Customers can expect beautifully designed vehicles such as the Q Inspiration concept shown in Detroit (earlier post), with a whole new level of electrified driving performance as an evolution of INFINITI’s current powertrains.

As a result of this emphasis on low-emission technology, INFINITI expects more than half its global sales to be electric vehicles by 2025.

Cannot wait for e power. Enough for city use and unlimited range.

When do you guys expect EV to be as common as Hybrid in Sin?

Does EV need engine oil ?

I think it will be the day that the govt:

1) Sort out how to recover the "lost" petrol tax of 60¢ (or more now...)per liter

2) Find the budget to install more charging stations at HDB and URA car parks.

Unless the above 2 can be managed, we won't see many electric cars on our roads.

No 2) solves no 1)

Install the charging points and charge the electricity at a higher rate.

Because the charging point is only used for cars.

The garmen will tax electric cars separately until it doesn't make sense for people to buy them. Just look at the case of CNG cars. Now all dead.

Jaguar I pace road tax almost double of BMW X3M.

Both cars are around 400hp.

Your are right - now already taxed to death!

$5800 vs $2300 a year, the 3500 different translate to plenty of fuel!  Add in the higher upfront selling price, it is much more expensive to run an electric vehicle, except for very high mileage users buying the cheapest electric cars, which probably won't have enough range for high usage.

I can only find X3 M40 price which is about 30k cheaper than I-pace.

I-pace has WLTP range of 470km. Let’s discount it by 20% to 376km. It use 90kwh battery. Based on 30cents/kWh grid rate, that is 7.2cents/km.

X3 M40 combined cycle is 9.1L/100km. Let’s discount it by 20% to 10.9L/km. Based on RON98 petrol after 20% disc, that’s 23cents/km.

To break even road tax difference of $3.5km, annual mileage must be 22k km.

There is a high risk of shifting goal as what happened to CNG.

Five Tesla Cars Caught Fire on a Trailer Truck.

Tesla said it was the truck that had caused the fire, but the other version of the story has it that a tractor-trailer had two trailers full of vehicles. According to the local newspaper, the rear one started to present fire, and the truck driver managed to get it disconnected.

Didnt really follow nor read it in details. Seems like SG govt against allowing Tesla to come in, but I see many other electric cars in SG. So what basis did SG govt outcast Tesla? Dont really know the stand of the govt. shouldnt it be a yes/no to EV, why yes to EV except Tesla? Any kind souls care to shed the light on this for me?

Why ppl keep asking about Tesla cars? Most current car owners will still not be able to afford one even if it's exempted from the carbon tax. But all other tax and coe still applies. Electric cars are not cheap to buy. Another issue is govt wants to reduce car population, wants ppl to take bus and train. Train is already electric. Unless Tesla can produce electric bus then maybe govt will take notice. Tesla cars, they already said the company is selling a lifestyle, which in simple terms out of reach for many ppl. If you are so into electric vehicles, take train.
