Japan may ban sale of new petrol-powered vehicles in mid-2030s

USD75k is niche market.

I am waiting for more players to get into the mass market EV game. Will they kill Tesla?  Tesla's EV technology may be better now but it is not something the rest of the world cannot catch up with in due course. The economies of scale in battery production also can't fight the Chinese once mass adoption takes place.

Tesla's model of building the entire ecosystem is also challenging for markets beyond North America. 

Is Tesla overvalued?  

Anyone with insights, please share your thoughts.

I think it is valued based on potential sales in China.

There're many car manufacturers launching new EVs this year. Tesla cars will have a tough fight ahead.

I was told by an engineer and investor many years ago the EV technology of the Europeans are pretty advanced too but Tesla is beating them in countries like Norway. Why?

They may have the technology, but are more interested in pushing diesel cars instead, until VW got caught with its emission scandal. Throughout this, Tesla has been increasing its production volume, no doubt helped by its charismatic CEO capturing the public's imagination on mobility for the next generation. The Europeans may have been caught on a wrong footing, but looking at the new EV models to be released this year, one can be sure they're back with a vengeance to take back their market share.

Electric cars rise to record 54per cent market share in Norway in 2020

Seeking to become the first nation to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2025, oil-producing Norway exempts fully electric vehicles from taxes imposed on those relying on fossil fuels.

Wah...no road tax for EVs in Norway. No wonder 54% market share.

Volkswagen's Audi brand topped the 2020 leaderboard with its e-tron sports utility and sportsback vehicles as the most sold new passenger cars in Norway last year, while Tesla's mid-sized Model 3, the 2019 winner, was relegated to second place.

Tesla kenna overtaken by Audi in Norway.
