Well caveat emptor:

YQC (2nd video) said that Maxus had grossly overstated the MiFa 9 consumption figures.

Instead of range being 560km, one could only get 400km, and that's on a very good day. Actual range is more like 300km.

Also, the car doesn't start well when they had it as their media car, stating that the car doesn't start 1/5 times they start the car.

He lamented that it was relatively spartan as well, and it's more for chaffeur duties than personal use.

I do not know how come got range of 560km as the relatively big capacity battery of 90KWh definitely cannot do such a range with such heavy car weight. Think the Aussie website quoted 440km which is more realistic.

And the starting issue was not mentioned in any other videos. We do not know the background of the review in HK as to the car condition which I reckon most likely is teething issue that has been ironed out subsequently. Anyway by the time the car hit our shore, if ever, most likely not such issue already lah.

Actually a most direct competitor for this ride would be the ID.Buzz which is equally spartan with similar range iirc. But would be definitely much cheaper.

An XPeng electric car owner complained on Chinese social media platform Weibo about the strange things his car made him do when it wanted to verify his identity through facial recognition.

The video he uploaded on Mar. 3 has gone viral with over 8 million views.

Car requested owner to do an identity check

The car owner claimed that after a recent update, he logged on to his in-car system's application and was requested to do an identity check through facial recognition.

The video shows that he was asked to place his face in front of a camera to fit into the circle designated by the app.

“Please move your face into the circle,” the app asked politely.

However, he discovered that the camera the app chose to use was near the car's front bumper, and it was pretty close to the ground.

Bend down or go on all fours

He was then forced to bend down, and tilt his head by the side, just so the app could "see "him.

"Never in my life have I expected this," the car owner said.

Another netizen reposted a photo from another post in the video's comments, which shows an XPeng car owner almost on all fours.

XPeng Motors apologises for poor user experience

A day after the video was posted, XPeng Motors issued a statement stating that they had taken down the app after receiving feedback about "poor user experience".

It explained that the application had invoked risk controls after a software update, requiring users to do facial recognition.

They have also apologised to the affected customers and will work on improving the system.

This is not the first time XPeng Motors has had trouble with "faces".

In December 2021, XPeng motors were fined RMB100,000 (S$19,440) for illegally collecting 430,000 facial images of store visitors over six months, as reported by Global Times.

Motor insurers write off EVs with battery damage

Over the last century, motor insurers have known exactly what to do with a vehicle with a damaged internal combustion engine or broken gearbox, and how to get it back on the road.

Not so with electric vehicles (EVs), according to Reuters. Insurers complain that many carmakers do not make EV battery packs easy to repair or provide them with third-party access to cell data to figure out what is wrong in the first place.

Batteries are also too expensive to replace, so insurers end up junking the whole car, making the EV a disposable item instead of a long-lasting, zero-emission solution.

Reuters found a large number of barely driven Teslas, as well as models from Nissan, Hyundai, the Stellantis group, BMW, Renault and others, in a search of EV salvage sales in Europe and the United States.

Meanwhile, unwanted battery packs are piling up in scrapyards, blasting a hole in what is supposed to be a “circular economy”.

Like that seem like it making sense to buy a house in JB liao. Electricity cost  is cheaper in JB than SG, so every day drive in charge overnight, full full, next day drive back SG. [:p][laugh][laugh]
