Shull Turbocharged July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 Got link boh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson#In_mainstream_media .... Lederman said he gave it a nickname because the particle is "so central to the state of physics today, so crucial to our understanding of the structure of matter, yet so elusive,"[77][78][83] and added that he chose "the God particle" because "the publisher wouldn't let us call it the Goddamn Particle, though that might be a more appropriate title, given its villainous nature and the expense it is causing."[78]... HP_Lee 5th Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 Apparently higgs has a bosum???? LINK Can a explain? Bro, from this research center. I have visited during the opening of the Large Hadron Collider tunnel in 2008. Very interesting. This new results of god particle is still unstable. 1fast1 Supersonic July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 (edited) The CERN particle smasher will provide further breakthroughs. The discovery of boson is still premature. Notice that alot of articles kept harping on Higgs Boson. Many seem to forget that the CERN director who delivered the press release, stopped short of declaring that the boson particle is indeed a Higgs boson. I wouldn't call the discovery premature by any means. 2 independent experiments have confirmed the existence of a previously unknown particle fitting the criteria for the Higgs Boson. That a particle exists (and it's not just a spurious signal) has been confirmed to a 5-sigma level, meaning the probability that it's just a random fluctuation is much less than one-in-a-million. That the particle is a boson is definite, as it meets the criteria for being a boson, in that it has integer spin. Its mass is as predicted, about 125 GeV, which is about 133 proton masses. It's definite that it's a new boson, and that it's massive. It's very probable that it's the Higgs Boson as predicted by Peter Higgs (and 5 others). However, if it's not the Higgs Boson, it'll be an even more sensational discovery as it means the Standard Model has to be revised in some major fashion. At any rate, renowned physicists like Stephen Hawking are already conceding the discovery - in Hawking's case, he grudgingly paid up on a bet he'd made with someone else. My bad, i meant that the touted discovery of a Higgs Boson is premature. That a boson is discovered is verified but to call that a Higgs Boson is maybe still early to say so. Gendut 2nd Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 So if the Higgs boson is confirmed and the Standard Model is the formula that governs all electromagnetic, gravitational and all other forces, why isn't our thermodynamic and electrical formulas not revised to be derived from the STandard Model?
