Returned from a 1 week trip. Drove my family around in a Serena. Spacious MPV with room for 6 of us + 2 large & 2 small luggage.

Nice winter weather from 13 - 26 degC. Good Japanese & Okinawan food. Lots of interesting sights.

Came back with lots of spare yen as it was cheaper than expected. Maybe also didn't spend a lot of time at the Outlet.

Did you fly Jetstar?

Yes Jetstar. Not the most comfortable overnight flight but it's direct.

Rough itinerary for 7 full days.

3 nights Motubu

2nights  Onna

2 nights Naha

Anyone went there recently? Any itinerary to share?

Jetstar seems affordable for direct flight.

To move around in Okinawa, renting a car is the best options.

The traffic is light, parking is not an issue, road is not complicated and road users are friendly.

I went there with my family and we booked a mini Suzuki MPV from Nippon Rent-a-car (https://nippon.car-rental.jp/globals/en_index/).. they will provide you the ETC card (aka toll card) which you can top up from them.  The rental company will pick you up from the Airport and bring you to their office which is about 5 - 10 min drive to collect your car.

Very professional and reliable I must say.

We drive from Naha (stay a night in Naha) all the way to the north, stopping a night in between cities and the last night at Churaumi Aquarium hotel.  Then we turn around and drive back to Naha stopping at any places that we missed out.

The road are mostly along the coast line and you can stop anytime you want for POI or photo taking at the nice scenery.  When you are thirsty or hungry, you can stop at any Lawson (same like our 7/11) which is easily available along the route...

I must say my family enjoyed this road trip... nice scenery, nice weather, fresh air, friendly locals, nice food and adventurous!

Any hotel recommendation for okinawa for Dec travel ?

As i read, renting car will be better as we can go more places easily.

How about food and attraction recommendation?

Outlet?

Outlet?

You mean factory outlet? Its called Ashibinaa. Not bad, can spend an afternoon there but Premium Outlets is still better.

Definitely must rent a car. The attractions are scattered up and down the island.

I went in Dec 2017. Will share more after I looked at my itinerary again

Had a quick look at my itinerary and realized that I didn't really follow my plan but just a quick summary of my 7D6N trip:

We stayed 2 nights in central area (Yomitan) in a AirBnB which I used as a base to visit attractions around there and further up north.  Places visited were:

American Village

Cape Manzamo

Churaumi Aquarium

Kouri Beach

Kaichu-Doro

Nuchi-ma Salt Factory

Aeon Mall Rycom

After Aeon Mall Rycom, we  checked in at Naha hotel for 4 nights.

Places visited:

Sefa Utaki

Factory Outlet

Whale Watching (not really recommended on hindsight as most of us got seasick and we only saw the tail of one whale coming out of water, no dramatic scenes of whales jumping out of the water)

T Galleria DFS

Makeshi Public Market

Fish Market near Naha (can't remember the name; it was not on my itinerary)

Kokusai-dori

Shurijo Castle.

Driving was easy except in Naha area where the back streets were narrow. I rented an Alphard but I only had to do it once.  Parking was expensive in Naha.

After that I returned the car, we moved around Naha on foot and metro.
