So_nice 6th Gear May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 A nice Youtube vid on different mounting angles, I think mounting at the front tip of the car works best but footage may be bumpy if you are travelling on rough roads. Do remember to buy spare batts . I won't suggest getting a GoPro from airports... yes you save on GST but if this is your first GoPro I strongly recommend you get one from local shops (plenty of shops at Funan selling GoPro), spend some time to be familiar with the settings and try the GoPro by mounting it on your SG car. Be familiar with the suction cups; last thing you want is to reach your destination with a superb view and you turn back... your GoPro is missing no longer attached to your car. If you want to be safe, get your second GoPro at the airport. It can serve as a backup or as a second camera that you can mount on the car... one capture the front another facing you and your family... expressions can be priceless. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmSZY9yq-yA Higher-end Blackvue comes with GPS built-in (except for the DR750 which the GPS module is optional... odd exception). GPS works to track your vehicle speed and heading. GPS can be useful when you are involved in an accident to prove your speed at point of accident, but it can be a disadvantage to you too if you had been speeding. Magic Pro is a cut-off device to prevent your Blackvue from depleting your car battery if you connect your GoPro directly to your car batt. Thanks for the advice bro..if I merely connect the blackvue to cig lighter socket, do I still need the magic pro? ↡ Advertisement

yrh0413 2nd Gear May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 Thanks for the advice bro..if I merely connect the blackvue to cig lighter socket, do I still need the magic pro? That you don't need a magic pro. But you missed out on parking mode recording where the Blackvue continues to record even when your car engine is off. If you don't need parking mode recording you can connect your Blackvue straight to the ciggie socket.
Viper0419 Neutral Newbie May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 As my car is parked about 10 hours a day for the day time and another 10 hours at night, the installer advise me not to us power magic but instead buy a separate battery that cost $300+. Makes sense? in theory, 10hrs is quite sufficient is you set it to cut off at 12v its not about the duration but rather the nature, let me explain why some car like merc and bmw if u hardwire directly (aka power magic..etc), if the voltage is set too low for cut off, u will have the eco mode/battery discharge..etc warning (depend wat diff brands call it) if u use cellink b, basically its connected to cig lighter or ign on at fusebox and the car charges the battery pack, during ALL TIMES the cam is drawing power only from the batt pack not ur car battery the advantage of this is to avoid manufacturer problems when dealers accuse u of tampering/cutting wire, and u dont strain the battery if u drive quite frequently during the day and battery is always charged, or car left 2-3 years , or u regularly change batt yearly, then u can skip the cellink
Viper0419 Neutral Newbie May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 For me basically I drive 40mins to work each morning. Car is parked there for up to 10-12 hours. Then it's drive home for 40mins again. Then parked for another 10 hours. Car is 1.5 years old only so I guess the smart thing to do is to get the external batteries?its just that I'm quoted blackvue 2 channel and the battery for a little more than $1k. A little hard to swallow.

A little hard to swallow. $1k seems to be too much. I also have very similar driving and parking timing as you. For my car cam (Front Full HD, Back HD) I only use the car battery. I set my cam to write to SD card only when it detects impact while in parking mode, instead of continuously writing to SD card, this will preserve battery life. So far I have no problem with battery life, battery is about 1/2 yr old. My cam is also set to shutdown when it detects low battery voltage, but so far it has not been activated. yrh0413 2nd Gear May 26, 2015 Share May 26, 2015 $1k should be the market price for Blackvue DR650 2-ch + cellink B + installation. Power Magic Pro will sure to cost much less. Personally I did not want to touch the car battery so I went for the cellink.
