My wife likes that supermarket. Lots of things to buy so last time used to go there quite often on Sundays. She buys, I eat [:p]

Not sure if this is common business speak: They say likely cease, haha

DEPARTMENT store owner Isetan (Singapore) says it will likely cease its own retailing operations at Isetan Orchard, Wisma Atria, from the second quarter of 2015.

It will continue to lease space to retail and food and beverage tenants at the premises. Its own department store operations will continue at Isetan Scotts Store in Shaw House.

"Together with its other four stores in the suburbs, it is committed to its long-term purpose of running department stores and supermarkets," the company said in a statement on Friday evening.

Isetan reported a loss of S$2.9 million for its third quarter ended Sept 30, 2014, compared to a S$762,000 profit a year ago. Revenue increased 4.4 per cent from S$76.6 million to S$79.9 million, boosted by sales contributions from its new Jurong East store in Westgate mall.

I believe as rental increases in prime areas, companies and shops will move to suburban areas, where rental prices are much lower, and crowds are equal if not more...

Nowadays, we don't have to travel to Orchard to shop at some pricey shops, instead these are now readily available at the local malls right at our doorsteps....

It's a win win situation for all :))

AT has spending power. Looks like they are going to where consumers are more willing spend.

why do we need so many shopping malls in the west.

Walk around on weekdays or nights, you can see less crowd.

How far can the stores sustain with so many malls having similar product

of different brands. I wonder who are these people shopping as we dont

have mountains around us to make us survive.

It's a one stop

1) knock down furniture store - similar to a Swedish brand

2) household furniture store

3) Hypermart with bulk sales

4) home appliances & electronic goods store

5) food court & eateries under BigBox

6) child care

7) think 2500 CP lots

Wow, will NTUC Warehouse Club at Joo Koon be affected?

Was there a few days ago.

Still very little business. The checkout ladies very little to do.

Quite interesting though - some brands (from USA )you'll never see in a regular NTUC.

They are not selling cheap stuff - a jar of mixed nuts comes in bigger size and cost 20+ dollars.

Saw a guy load up his car with a trolley of chocolate stuff – so it suits certain people.

jurong east is the new orchard road !!!

got jem

got westgate

got imm

got bigbox

got mrt (JE is quite a impt exchange)

got high class mickey mouse condo

got hospital (coming soon)

JE property now $1500psf ... $2000psf coming target .... lol

all-in-one is the best ... something for everyone

i presume it's bigger than IMM? this will draw some visitors and customers from IMM

hopefully both can stay together and not 1-kill-another .... IMM has been at least 20 years liao?

last time IMM quite rundown and nothing to see and nothing to buy

after the revamp it brings the life out again for IMM

looking forward how BigBox and IMM maintain their concept and continue to engage customers now both also got furniture, aircon, hypermarket, dining, etc ... except IMM got Deco/Reno?

Bigbox being new kid on the block would have an added advantage to lure customers [thumbsup]

Not so sure which one bigger, but I know BigBox is 7/8 storey tall,

Have what Tampines 3xWarehouse retail scheme, all stack together.

Big Box added advantage is the human traffic from MRT is more accessible than IMM.

Parking haven't tried yet, so cannot comment.
