with so many lines, what is the main factor for their operations?

human traffic!

so expect govt to open floodgates again to allow more foreigners to come in...

Since locals always complain our public transport cannot cater to the high number of people here, so now they will improve the system and build more lines. So when they want to open the floodgates again, locals have nothing to say liao. [:p]

the key in our national tap is new water but it is energy intensive. we derive our energy from natural gas. so one day natural gas price suddenly go up, we all cry

Singapore natural gas is cheap meh. I tot singapore don't peg the price one...

If u are subsidising the cost of natural gas, yes your concept makes sense. Singapore v realistic one, costs go up, sure pass on to consumers -_-

Cemetery cave-in at Thomson East Coast Line construction site

A machine operator's lapse in judgement during train tunnelling works and ground conditions contributed to a tomb caving in earlier this month at the Mount Pleasant Chinese Cemetery within Greater Bukit Brown.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) told The Straits Times yesterday that the operator of a tunnel boring machine had continued running it in mixed ground conditions instead of stopping. "This led to over-excavation and a localised depression on the surface."

Tunnelling works in the area for the Thomson-East Coast Line have stopped since the incident, LTA said. But no delay is expected for the line, which will have 31 stations linking Woodlands to Bedok by the time it is completed in 2021.

LTA said the cave-in, which was reported on March 4, was about 3m long, 2m wide and 1m deep.

Meanwhile, the authority has engaged an engineer to investigate the incident and propose rectification works. Contractor Daewoo Engineering and Construction has "removed" the operator.

The company will also tighten supervision of future tunnelling operations, LTA said, without going into details. The authority added that it will work with the South Korean company to select a more experienced machine operator as replacement.

The affected tomb belongs to a Mr Chen Yi Kuan, and work to reinstate it has commenced, LTA said, adding that it will be completed before Qing Ming next month. Efforts to locate the family have not been successful and no other tombs were affected, LTA said.

New MRT station to be added to Thomson-East Coast Line: LTA

In a press release on Monday (7 January), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said the Founders’ Memorial station – which is its current working name – will be located between the TEL’s Tanjong Rhu and Gardens by the Bay stations.

The station will serve upcoming residential and recreational developments in the Marina Bay area. It will also improve accessibility for visitors to Bay East Garden, where the memorial will be located, said the LTA.

It added that the station will be built by converting the TEL facility building that is currently under construction at Bay East Garden into an MRT station. The roughly $242 million contract for the facility building’s construction was awarded to China Railway First Group in June 2016.

Works on the station will commence this year, with it expected to open in tandem with the Founders’ Memorial in 2025. The 5ha memorial site will include an indoor gallery with a garden.

Good news that six more stations will open this year. Thought they will drag until next year then can open. At least now at woodlands side can go to sin ming and toa payoh easier. If not have to take the NSL down to bishan and toa payoh which most of the station are quite busy and distance seems longer.

I see the signboard Stage 2 completion date is May 2020. After the trials and testing it should be opened by end of the year
