Why LTA didn't do public consultation before deciding on this? If they consulted, they wouldn't need to backflip their decision and make themselves look stupid.

What to consult when certain bus line has to go?

In the end, the bus line might disappear also.

Poor ridership.

I think it is due to poor planning in the past for this bus 167.

Look at the route.

Quote

Bus service 167 - which connects areas such as Sembawang, Upper Thomson, Novena, Orchard, the central business district and Bukit Merah - will cease operations.

Look at the neighbourhoods the bus is connected to. Sembawang-Upper Thomson, Novena-Orchard, CBD-Bukit Merah, those adjacent to one another are ok but it continues to stretch to two other areas and become further and further. You can imagine the number of people it serves. If they were to break it apart into 3 areas and have a different bus service serve each area that would make more sense. But they didnt do it also for an obvious reason. To save cost and manpower. One fleet of buses and a group of bus drivers serve 3 neighbourhoods instead of 3 seperate fleets. Miss one bus and wait for ages is also one of the bad effects for such long distance buses.

So many people from 3 areas, even if ridership had gone down that's still a big number the bus 167 is serving. How not to kaopeh?

They should make efforts to reintroduce shorter route bus service to serve within the neighbourhoods that are closer to one another, maybe with slightly longer intervals. Remove the Novena to Orchard bus route and supplement the other two. Rather than just removing it in one go.

they conveniently forgotten about the 3 estates of flat at cantonment: behind the old railway, everton and pinnacle. that busstop only has 3 buses: 196, 75 and 167, while no mrt station in close proximity.

I used to stay around that area and these 3 buses are essential. By cutting it down to 1 without the touted TEL replacing anything there, the "community leader" sure can lead and know the area well.

This bus 167 episode same as what had happened when they want to cut some bus services in Bt Panjang.

It's kinda sad to think we peasants don't even have the freedom to choose our preferred mode of public transport, nevermind being forced to give up dreaming about private transport.

Consult with the public, if the bus should go? How many ppl take that bus route? Based on the feedback, seems like the bus is crowded during peak hours, if not there won't be a public outcry? Obviously there wasn't any consultation and the public was blind sided by the decision.

The data you said is readily available for LTA to check.  No need to consult.

Nowadays, LTA decision is based on numbers.

When did public ever NOT blindsided by any decision?

It's not the first time they had remove bus services along mrt lines. It is a no-brainer, or at least to LTA. They had done it since mrt lines had been completed.

But for long distance bus connecting to so many neighbourhoods it's affecting too many ppl. Their cost and manpower saving plan is their undoing.

Think the basic issue is...

Is MRT meant to replace bus?

Or supplement choice?

Are function the same.

bus can redeploy elsewhere earn money.

mrt cannot redeploy, need somehow to get ridership to recoup cost.
