Neo, Jack Neo outguns James Bond!

He still got the winning formula to satisfy local taste!

ST article:

A veteran British secret service agent is no match for a bunch of Singaporean army recruits at the cinemas.

Local director Jack Neo's army movie Ah Boys To Men has broken local box-office records by earning more $1.5 million over its opening weekend, in the process beating James Bond movie Skyfall, which was in its second week of release.

The coming-of-age film about youths going through through national service took $1,509,422 from last Thursday (Nov 8) to Sunday (Nov 11), giving it the biggest opening weekend ever for a local movie.

With 37 prints in cinemas, it beat the previous record-holder, the 2008 comedy Ah Long Pte Ltd, also directed by Neo, which had made $1,484,000 with 50 prints in its opening weekend over Chinese New Year.

I didn't really like the Ah Long PTE LTD :wacko:

how come there's no discount for NSF/NSMEN?

at least give a 10-20% off for all who had served NS regardless of SAF,SCDF,SPF as a tribute to all those had 'sacrificed' 2.5 years for this country.

When watching our Island kana attack and our people kana killed in our familiar HDB and city area.

It somehow jock the anguish within and I feel like taking some of these enemy down......

Well it was just a movie but it did remind us we should not take national defense for granted.

It will be even saddest when you become a slave. This island is just a training ground to remind you the good live in Singapore did not evolve naturally.

That's a brilliant idea. Jack neo as an ex officer, should have implemented this!!

Part 2 will be shown during CNY period if I'm not wrong. I also enjoyed the show very much. Brought back memories of my fellow platoon mates during my recruit time back in 1994/5 period. Those typical chao keng type, siao on type and hokkien peng type. Haha...

So the Part 1 managed to deliver some authenticity about NS life loh?

also too abrupt

Part I ended abruptly - I think partly because cinema wanted Neo to split the movie into two due to > 100 min.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/ent...1214669/1/.html

the cinemas told us its best to keep films to about 100 minutes in length. If it's too long, the costs will go up and it will be hard to schedule. So we discussed it and decided to split it into two films."
