Darryn Turbocharged January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 Happy happy joy joy - I think this is a great idea! http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...-leave-20130121 Some thoughts though, for you all to discuss... The widely-expected move was announced on Monday Widely expected? Really? I saw a lot of people asking, but NOTHING to suggest that it was widely expected! The timing of the announcement is just nice for the election - so which side of the debate do you think it adds credence to? a) The PAP is doing a good job, and should be "rewarded" by the vote in Punggol East b) The Worker's Party is right, and having them in parliament makes the PAP work "harder" - so you should continue to support the WP Whadda reckon? And do you like this idea? Yay or Nay? In essence, dads get ONE week paid paternity leave in the first 16 weeks after birth, and mum can "give up" one week of her leave for dad on top of that. I think the basic idea is really really good (but still doesn't go far enough) ↡ Advertisement

Kiario 5th Gear January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 better than nothing although more can be done. of course, there will always be people saying they are able to cope when there wasn't any parternity leave last time. these people most likely those whose wife already close factory liao, to them, as long as it doesn't benefit them, they will say its not neccessary. Altivo 3rd Gear January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/...121-396786.html KNN nothing on childcare. By Jessica Cheam Monday, Jan 21, 2013 The Government on Monday announced measures under a Marriage and Parenthood package aimed at making Singapore more family-friendly. These include: * Housing: Married couples with children under the age of 16 and who are buying HDB flats for the first time will get priority allocation of new flats. Married couples with children who are renting flats directly from the HDB will also be able to do so at affordable rates. * Cost of raising children: A bigger baby bonus cash gift of $6,000 will be given for the first two births and $8,000 for third and fourth births. Right now, the baby bonus is $4,000 and $6,000 respectively. Every Singaporean baby will also get a Medisave account with $3,000 in it. MediShield will also be extended to cover congenital and neonatal conditions of babies. * Paternity leave: The Government will legislate one week of paid paternity leave for fathers. Fathers can also share one week of their wife's maternity leave entitlement. * Work-life measures: Working mothers who adopt will get four weeks of government-paid adoption leave. Parents with children aged seven to 12 will get two days of childcare leave. In addition, there will be extended maternity protection to cover full term of pregnancy for those dismissed without sufficient cause. * Support for conception and delivery: The government will co-fund Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) treatments from the current 50 per cent to 75 per cent. Delivery fees in public hospitals will be standardised. The package will cost the government about $2 billion a year, up from the $1.6 billion budget previously. Littleknown Clutched January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 Housing: Married couples with children under the age of 16 and who are buying HDB flats for the first time will get priority allocation of new flats. Is it priority over marrying couples? Does this mean they are also encouraging baby born out of wedlock first then apply HDB?

Baphomet 3rd Gear January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 (edited) This package is good Maybe can increase the age limit for childcare leave from max of 6 years old to 12 years old too... its not as if a primary school kid can stay at home alone when he/she is sick... and perhaps subsidies for Student Care as well. (just read again and realise they have given 2 day child care leave for age 7-12) Overall this is a good package and should be well received by young couples (coincidencely matches the demographics of PE ) Edited January 21, 2013 by Baphomet
