Ahtong 1st Gear February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 Really need to see the CCTV footage to determine whose fault A 28-year-old woman fell into gap in an escalator being serviced at Tanah Merah MRT Station last Monday. Miss Azlin Amran was stuck in the waist-deep pit for almost half an hour as Singapore Civil Defence Force rescuers worked quickly to free her. The unemployed woman, who was later rushed to hospital and sent to the intensive care unit, suffered injuries including a punctured lung, a fractured pelvis and spinal injuries. said her mother. SMRT told The New Paper that a barrier had been put up at the entrance of the escalator that was being serviced. But Miss Azlin had told her mother, Madam Azizah Mohd Lajis, 52, that there were no barriers at the escalator that evening. Ahtong 1st Gear February 4, 2013 Author Share February 4, 2013 I sincerely hope MRT had erected a safety barrier, otherwise there will be a lawsuit coming.
WTF 4th Gear February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 I'm rather surprised that she didn't noticed something different abt the escalator be it barrier or no barrier. I always remind my god-daughter not to play or look at the phones when using the escalators or even elevators.
Ender Hypersonic February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 CCTV should be able to tell if there's barrier or not.
Wyfitms Twincharged February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 Review conducted: Need to hire more maintenance workers to ensure safety barriers at up at all times. Then hire addtional managers to supervise these workers. conclusion: need to raise fares otherwise SMRT cannot provide such world class service

Assuming there was no barrier, she probably saw the first few steps and rushed on assuming the rest of the steps were still there. My guess only. Normally the 1st step should realise something amiss when it's not moving, still take 2nd step into the hole.

Ahtong 1st Gear February 4, 2013 Author Share February 4, 2013 Normally the 1st step should realise something amiss when it's not moving, still take 2nd step into the hole. To be honest if an escalator is not moving, I will just continue walking under the assumption that the motor is spoilt (but steps are still intact). If there is maintenance, there should be a safety barrier blocking the way. Of course if the woman chose to squeeze past the barrier, then too bad to her. Maz0608 3rd Gear February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 The problem is nowadays a lot of ppl are not paying attention when they are walking or crossing the road. How many times have we see ppl texting or meddling their phones while doing that?
Watwheels Supersonic February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 I haven't take MRT for quite a while but back dan I always see kiasu ppl will dash to the escalator once the doors open. It's like the race horses at turf club.... Maybe when she realised also too late, other kiasu ppl bump her from behind. ↡ Advertisement
