Yes, diesel used to be very cheap. But with the implementation of the Euro emission standards, the rise is way more drastic than petrol at $1.69/litre now even with crude oil prices at an 18 yr low.

diesel prices went up from 2000, largely due the appetite from China.

I am wondering if petrol prices will go up if some of the refineries in Singapore close.

Maybe SRC or some other refinery. Where will SPC and Caltex get their petrol?

You must be quite young. That was in 2004.

That would be the last thing to suggest

in fact i would recommend full tank rule implemented.   Together with the pump price reduction.

If petrol prices in Singapore can be reduced to a competive level, there will be no need for full tank or even 3/4 tank rule.

about 19-20 years back, my diesel van full tank was only like $23- 25/- (must be 50 litres); so must be less than 50cents / L

How low can petrol prices go, when 1/3 of the retail price consists of petrol excise duty.

Then you have the expensive infrastructural, rental, operational &  manpower costs.

Have. That time not many SPC until they acquired BP’s stations, I think 2004 or 2005.
