I was thinking of bidding until I saw an article on the straits Times.

Altis 1.6

COE Car price

Feb 2010 $20,300 $76,000 ---> w/o COE, $55,700

Jan 2013 $78,000 $156,000 ----> w/o COE, $78,000

Today, a classic Altis is going for $123,999

According to the article, high car price after COE is due to few COE quota.

You are saying AD are now selling less cars, hence need to earn more per car?

Yes. Lesser coe, higher car price. AD do adjust car price to have fatter profit. A Wish cost $160k. If you remove coe of $80k, Wish is $80k. In 04 when coe is $24k, Wish was $74k, which means it cost $50k less coe. I am convince that AD do adjust car price for their own gain.

Back in 2010, altis already cost about $76K with COE?! :blink: Anyway, really wonder what will be the COE in this round bidding after the implemention of new car loan ruling?

Neutral Newbie

At this rate, the number of bids for Cat A could reach 600+ and Cat B 500+.

Heard the number of orders over the weekend for Cat A 40k and 50k COE rebates were overwelming.

However BMW, VW, Mercedes and Audi said they will bid above 70k(Cat A) and 80k(Cat B) for all their orders.

The Japs, Koreans etc will still lose out this round.

The strong demand continues.....don't be surprised the COE prices exceed last round?

Unbelievable rich car buyers out in full force.

Yup. Coming across as taking order for order sake if this is really the case.

No lah, the bidders (esspecially ADs) would keep their "reserved" prices much much higher than $1. Till the number of bids exceed number of COEs available, the system would show $1 only.

hullo so many dealers still accepting 100% loans lor. i know got sales closed over d weekend w high financings... whoever are these buyers must b convinced prices will not fall, or die die refuse to put any $ down for a car...

as & when garmen finally close all the loan loopholes, then is better idea where coe will stabilize at.

It is not everyone is bidding $1.

The current coe is $1 as the number of bids is still below the quota.

Once quota is exceeded, the coe will increase.

Perhaps not all $1, but most will be lowballs bids like $111 $888 $1688 or even $8,888.

Some brave one may even bid $18,888.

But I doubt any would bid any higher than $20,000.

Because might as well buy from AD direct if willing to pay so high for a COE.
