Air Con Specialist Workshop - L & Kim (Ubi)

Last few days the weather was a killer! and the aircon is always temperamental to break down on these hot days.....

Was reading the forum for aircon workshop - MarkCool, Tomika came up as most popular. Some suggestions were Kim.

Went over to Ubi early morning 8.45am. Saw Tomika already opened and Kim was yet to open. There were already cars inside Tomika so decided to wait for Kim.

After discussion with Kim and his visual inspection, the possibility of breakdown is cooling coil leak. Quoted the job cost, nego a bit, go ahead to do it.

Good thing is if the coil is OK, then i just need to pay for aircon service fee (include coil checking).

Humble boss, give Kim a try. Just make sure you are early because the job will take 3-4hrs (for cooling coil or more for compressor).

The assistant is OK quite open to share knowledge with me.

The above quote applied to bread & butter Jap 1.3L car. I understand from boss that Conti car will need more workmanship, thus higher job fee.

maybe u can check on the cabin filter as sometime it will block the wind from coming out, hence need longer time to cool your ride.

I have removed the filter lor...tested, tried, still hot air blowing....

I got similar issue last year, change filter, it was settled. Now take out the whole filter, go direct blow, also hot, no choice, got to repair... [:(]

i dont quite agree to this.

i believe in changing the air con compressor oil periodically. i change every 40k KM or so. It doesn't cost alot anyway. I just did it on last Sat. Costs me $68.

the ws will clean up the inside blower too.

many drivers don't change air con compressor oil and the compressor will not last long eventually.

Different view I guess. My VW is now 5 and 8 mths with mileage 80K. Never done servicing before, the aircon still strong and cold. Only change the aircon filter every 20K.

To be honest, I did nothing to my Hyundai Matrix's air con for the past 9 years except cabin filter changed. It went strong till I scraped the car recently but I still think is good to do a oil change for the compressor.

I used to subscribe that changing compressor oil is good. But then the fridge and home Aircon also never heard of anyone changing oils before. What's so special about car Aircon? So never bother now. I think it's just a way to get more money by workshops.
