no confidence in the PRC government.

See 2002 SAR timeline.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_SARS_outbreak

Read this part:

Early in the epidemic, the PRC discouraged its press from reporting on SARS and lagged in reporting the situation to the World Health Organization, delaying the initial report. Initially, it did not provide information for Chinese provinces other than Guangdong, the province where the disease is believed to have originated.[3] For example, a WHO team that travelled to Beijing was not allowed to visit the Guangdong province for several weeks.[4] This resulted in international criticism which seemed to have caused a change in government policy in early April. The PRC Health Minister has apologized for early delays in reporting and has been holding regular press conferences. The PRC government appears to have issued directives that the press should not refrain from stating bad news and that government officials should accept media supervision

cos of EGO and face issues, causes this SARS outbreak to spread very fast all over the world.

Maybe like last time, the problem very serious just that they under report again.

Malaysia detects first imported H7N9 case

English.news.cn 2014-02-12 19:26:39 More

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Health Ministry confirmed Wednesday that the first imported Influenza A (H7N9) case was detected in the country and the victim was a female tourist from China.

The 67-year-old Chinese woman has begun to have a fever since Feb. 30 in China, where she received some early treatments. Then she came to Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 3 from China's Guangdong Province. The woman then went to Sandakan, Sabah on Feb. 4 and moved on to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Feb. 6 where she was sent to hospital on Feb. 7.

In the first screening, the woman was tested positive for the H7N9. And after the second screening on Feb. 11, she was confirmed to be tested positive for the H7N9.

Twenty people who used to have close contact with the patient have got screening and tested negative for the disease.

"She is currently receiving treatment in the ICU, put on ventilator and is in a stable condition," Malaysian Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam told a press conference.

He said there was no need to panic as the risk for human transmission of H7N9 is very low.

This is highly significant, as it is the first case outside of Taiwan, HK and Mainland China. And as luck would have it, it had to emerge so close to us.

H7N9 has been ramping up in China over the past few weeks. I predicted that we would see exported cases in the region because of CNY tourism, and now it appears this has come to pass. Anyway, for now the risk to Singapore is really low, so nothing to panic about. But it's worth taking sensible precautions - if you're sick, protect others by wearing a surgical mask. If you fall sick and you've travelled recently, seek medical attention and divulge all details. And get your regular flu shots - even though they don't protect against this deadly strain, they will offer protection against normal seasonal flu and help to reduce "noise" from the seasonal flu cases that present at A&E and GP clinics.
