Just back from Malacca over the weekend, heard from the street vendors there that the government is shutting down Jonker Walk.

But the street vendors will still operate there next weekend there despite the shut down notice.

at least area like laksamana will not be so jam packed over the weekend.

But that street during the weekend is like the signature of Malacca town already. If shut down or moved to another location, most likely will reduce the number of tourist.

Personally find that Malacca has become quite touristy, prefer it quaint and simple like it was in the past. Not sure if it will return to that way if Jonker Walk is shut down...

i think they are referring to the night market which only happen over the weekend. Anyway the retail shops will still be around during the day which also attract a lot of tourists.

Agree

Less tourists and less crowd, let it be a quiet and relaxed place for visitors who bother to go there. [thumbsup]

Yep, because the sponsor's son lost the seat there during election to the PKR. Quite a sore loser attitude.

Didn't know the street stalls need sponsor too? Tot they gathered together and the stalls sprouted up..

Anyway, things not cheap there and too crowded now.. Malacca lost some of its old charms when the tourist flocks came... and prices shot up.

If some find Malacca too commercial now, can also take side trips up to Port Dickson or down to Muar... still OK..

Hv fun! ^_^

They need to pay off someone to block-off the street. [lipsrsealed]
