This is the time that good quality durian start to roll to the street. yup. Now most of the "reputable" stores have not started. Only one I know of but they facing a high % of rejected durians. Seems they jumped the gun this time round. Usually the Ramadan month is a good time to buy durian (when in season) due to lower demand. ↡ Advertisement

I will wait till mid June for the price to stabilise and quality get better.

Most places selling Chanee and Thunder King now. Are these kampong or Thai durians with newly invented fanciful names so that they can command higher pricing ? Who do you usually buy from?

Chanee is a registered thai cultivar. Often passed off as MSW or similar here. i'm not familiar with Thunder king.

This was a newly opened stall so wasn't sure of the quality so just bought some to try first and didn't want to buy the more expensive one yet. All those I bought had between ~12 seeds per durian. Not durian expert, main thing this was worth it for the price and quality to me.
Brass 6th Gear May 25, 2020 Share May 25, 2020 (edited) Was at Chong Pang just now, and got 2 durians for $10. Size isnt great and they certainly dont look that appealing (was quite worried that I would end up with 2 stinking paperweights) , but taste is amazing for early durian. Look at the slight blue black of the white durian...slurps. The white one is quite bitter, while the reddish one, which I reckon is a D168 (or D101) is sweet. noobcarbuyer 5th Gear May 25, 2020 Share May 25, 2020 Can try Durian Empire at Punggol Plaza. Just order online and it's nicely packed and vacuum sealed when you arrive at the appointed timing.

My experience with Ah Seng is ok. Usually I don't buy during off season. I will text first, tell them my preference (including highlighting I am fussy buyer) and ask ho bo? Usually they are quite upfront.

I was surprised that there's a hint of xo on palette but again its mildly so. Am looking forward to a good harvest of really bitter ones from mid June onwards. Do share if hv nice lobangs.
