they probably intend to make the changes in a big announcement, like the next budget or even next national day rally. the consultation is over and the "studies" probably take more than a year. an ad hoc announcement is for things like "cooling measures" for housing, and won't score them any points.

if you're in an urgent need for a MPV, how about getting a 9-year old one? because its depreciation will be almost in line with its decreasing paper value. your losses are limited. something like this:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...610&DL=1000 <-- picnic. a bigger car.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...192&DL=2286 <-- wish.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...537&DL=2118 <-- stream. guarantee get back $17k = the max you'll lose is $5k.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...606&DL=2315 <-- prairie. cheapest of the lot, but big drinker.

anytime within the next year not happy can just scrap the car and get back the paper value, which will be not much lower than what you buy it for. if prices fall after the announcement, then slowly shop for the car you want. but don't count on prices falling, to be honest. this is singapore.

thank you for the suggestion, comprehensive and convincing :). Another option I am thinking is a 7/8 years old. Hearing that COE quota of 16/17 might increase significantly which could cause COE drop, any comments?

the same logic applies for 7/8 year old cars. depreciation is limited because sellers can't possibly price them much higher than their current paper value.

you have a lot of choices when it comes to a 2006 MPV:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/listing...EH=10&AVL=2

the COE market is as hard to read as tea leaves now. there will be more cars scrapped in 2016/17, yes. but the current policy is not to allow bumper crops, so it's quite likely that LTA will still release COEs at the same rate, if not a bit higher, than the current numbers. so prices are likely to remain stable over long term.

of course, you can bet on the few months before GE2016, when prices may mysteriously fall. but once that happens, everyone will go into the market and prices will rebound again.

I am thinking to buy a car, but hesitate due the news. Really need one for my family.

Just go for long term rental....take a two years rental....solve the issue. ....fark the COE!
