Couldnt engage 5th gear and loud toktok sound in engine bay

Was driving and suddenly I couldn't engage 5th gear..gear stick when in, but rpm just dropped. I dropped to 4th gear and stopped and put to neutral. I hear loud tok tok sounds from engine bay also. I turned off and switched on again, tok tok sound persists.

Now waiting tow truck, to be on safe side.

 

Anyone encounter this before?

I'm driving a manual swift sport.

Can't be..just change clutch 3-4months back..

before i left the car, i started, i tried engaging 1,2,3,4 - all ok..i engaged 5th, now stuck. couldnt go back neutral.

switched off car and just left it at workshop.

release bearing also known as clutch release bearing. its replace together with your clutch plate and clutch cover. Not sure this bearing was it installed properly or your workshop did not replace this part.

If the synchromesh cable snapped it shouldn't be making tok tok tok... sounds. Something else in the clutch assembly could have caused the cable to snap such that the gear lever is stuck in a position and making that noise.

hmm mechanic says clutch assembly seems fine, the sound is from gearbox..ooooh my..
