Sixteen people were injured following an accident involving a lorry and a car on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Wednesday evening.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said 12 of the injured were sent to Alexandra Hospital while the remaining four were sent to the National University Hospital.
SCDF said all 16 injured were men, and confirmed there were no fatalities.
It is understood that they were passengers on the lorry.
The accident happened just before 9pm near the Jurong Town Hall exit in the direction of the city.
According to a Channel NewsAsia viewer, the lorry had overturned. The viewer added that he saw casualties on the road divider.

Drive safe everyone

accidents are usually aplenty before and after holiday period..i'm not sure why..my wild guess is generally drivers are excited before holidays and unhappy after holidays that they have to work

14 of 16 workers injured are out of hospital

Of the 16 workers injured in Wednesday night's accident on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) between a lorry and a car, 14 of them have been discharged with minor injuries, said their employer.

One worker is still warded for observation at Alexandra Hospital while another is at National University Hospital (NUH), said Hypex Engineering and Services' operations manager Ng Cheow Teck. They are under observation for a head injury and back pain respectively, he added.

The accident, which happened shortly before 9pm Wednesday before the Jurong Town Hall exit in the direction of the city, occurred when a black car rear-ended the lorry, said Mr Ng. The police confirmed that the driver of the car, a 44-year-old Singaporean man, has been arrested for drink-driving.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force subsequently sent fourteen of the injured workers to Alexandra Hospital, while another four workers were taken to NUH. "A car collided with the rear bottom right side of the truck, and caused it to lose control, skid and turn over from the third lane to the first lane," said the 25-year-old operations manager. He added that the lorry had a canopy and that no workers were flung out of the lorry. The company has lodged a police report.

So how many people actually need to die before they outlaw human beings being transported in lorries?

They can all die as long as no VIPs get injured and no public outcry happens.

Any time there's business costs involved, safety is not important.

AYE accident: SUV driver arrested for drink driving

The driver of a black sport utility vehicle (SUV) that rear-ended a lorry on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Wednesday night has been arrested for drink driving, the police said yesterday.

The accident, which happened just before the Jurong Town Hall exit, left 16 men who were in the lorry injured.

They were all workers from Hypex Engineering, which was ferrying 20 of them back to their dormitory in Jurong.

Mr Ng Cheow Teck, the company's operations manager, said the black SUV had collided with the right rear side of the lorry, which caused it to skid and turn over.

Seen many of these kind of lorries going very fast.

These speeding lorry drivers are putting their passengers' life on the chopping board everyday!!! Not sure whether their boss or passengers ask them to go fast to reach workplace/home?

Any time there's business costs involved, safety is not important.

Cheaper, faster mah!!!!!

They can all die as long as no VIPs get injured and no public outcry happens.
