Yes even if its an auto.

Your clutch is slipping so the gears not engaging.

Could also be caused by a dirty transmission.

Why not go and do a tranny flush and replace all gaskets/seals.

Cost only a few hundred bucks and may solve your problem.

If it doesnt solve the problem, at least you dont lose much.

To rebuilt auto tranny for a Sunny, i would think it should be very cheap.

A few grand should do the job.

In Singapore, rebuilding transmission or overhaul engine generally means scrap car and buy new one. Not many people will go this route.

But yeah, sounds like the tranny is fcuked.

either get a used gear box to last you for 30 months or scrap the car early. can get back some parf amount.

My friend's old Sunny sort of similar problem, won't move into the highest gear (dunno 4th or 5th), so have to tarik the speed. After a few months, pass the problem to exporter.

If only 30 months, get the cheapest option.

Maybe u can try do a ATF flush n change the ATF filter first n see how.

Cub it b the previous time u change yr ATF the WS use the wrong type?

Or check if a solenoid switch is faulty? Just change that only.

Auto Transmission is an assemble of very precision parts and components consists mainly of planetary gear systems, mutli-clutch plates , soleniods ,oil flow gallery plates and spool valves. All these can only work to perfection when the right ATF is used and in extreme clean enclosed enviroment .

In the workshop, mech make do with multi purpose use oil funnel, oil gun resulting in cross contaimination and dirt is easily introduced into the auto transmission enclosed systems. The end result is clutch plate slip due to poor surface contact.

Likely a solenoid problem. Anyway it is a problem and a trip to the workshop is necessary.

If you never flush your transmission before during regular servicing, it is best not to do it as you will have more problem than a clean transmission ... especially if it is an old car.

...this is the 3rd time I have done ATF...same wkshop...so not likely..

if solenoid switch, need to open the the gear box??

specialist wrkshop just gave the quote and probably wont tell me even if it is only solenoid switch...

1) Is it possible this time ty use wrong ATF? It wun b the 1st time I heard it happen cos now got so many different types of ATF n some newbie mechs also confused or dun know even.

Solenoid not much labour to change. Sure cost less than a new or re-conditioned autobox.

2) This is their ricebowl. Ty dun wan to teach u smart.

3) 2nd hand autobox u can try scrapyards. Maybe can get much cheaper. Some scrapyards even have a mech who can install the autobox for u even. Afterall ty have their own mechs to go Japan to dismantle all the cars there b4 sending the parts to SG.

Just ask for a guarantee the autobox works otherwise ty wil change for u without any additional charges.
