Lai liao, the messaging justifications has begun...

Over the years, taxpayers have had to subsidise more of the rising operating costs as public transport fares in Singapore have not kept up, according to Minister Khaw Boon Wan.

Hinting already, get ready for fare increase.

So now you all know, government is really under intense pressure to see where can collect more money.

Just hope that Smrt, sbs transit dont come out with what idea that need a lot of money to fix things that is actually not broken. The replacement of wooden sleeper to concrete is a very good example. This is really very wasteful in terms on money spent..

SINGAPORE government will soon call tenders to upgrade and replace ageing rail assets to improve the city-state's rail realiability, Khaw Boon Wan, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure, said on Wednesday.

Mr Khaw, who is also the transport minister, told Parliament the tenders would include the upgrade of the North-South and East-West Lines' power supply system, and to replace the first-generation MRT fleet with 66 new trains.

For the North East Line, the ministry is working with SBS Transit to refurbish and upgrade their first-generation trains.

For the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (LRT), it has started the process for its renewal.

Singapore government to call tenders soon to replace and upgrade rail assets: Khaw

"We target to call a tender this year for a complete replacement of its ageing components and an upgrade of its systems,'' Mr Khaw said.

The government is also acquiring the necessary tools and capabilities that would aid predictive maintenance for trains and tracks. These include new generation automatic track inspection systems and condition monitoring tools for real-time data collection and analysis.

On bus infrastructure, Mr Khaw said the government would be awarding the tender for the third bus contracting package at Seletar next month. Later this year, it will call the tender for the fourth package at Bukit Merah.

"With competition, bus operators are working harder to improve their service. This is good for commuters,'' he said, adding that over the next five years, the government is expecting to subsidise public bus services by some S$3.5 billion to S$4 billion.

As for the rail sector, it expects to spend S$4 billion over the next five years. This is on top of about S$20 billion it will be spending to build new public transport infrastructure, Mr Khaw said

Seriously, can they just open the books for the past 20 years and show the accounts?

Every year I see them paying dividends to shareholders and also who is the biggest shareholder? Make a guess.......

So every now and then gahmen pump in tax payers' money so the biggest share holder make more dividends?

Then in return tax more on tax payers?

Aint no accountant but sure dont make sense.

Not too bad lah, used for 30 years.

Wear and tear also 30 years. A train run for 30 years surely is time for replacement?

Nationalise is for these purposes too to make it more efficient for travel, if private company will try to prolong use as long as possible since no need to pay COE.

So what you're saying is that we bought some lousy rail assets which are due to be scrapped soon?

dont think its that simple. If Japan and some of the asia countries are more expensive than us, apparently the real cost is still very subsidized.

lets just hope there are no quantum increase everywhere like food and electric bill as well just to response to public transport cost.
