Singapore AD import:

Or their climate is cooler which means their engine isn't "de-tuned" slightly...

Actually China follows Euro IV AFAIK. It has been a joke that China has stricter standards than most countries but still got worse pollution mainly due to industrial pollution.

China is indeed the biggest and most competitive car market in the world, similar to US at second place. Not uncommon to be offered ten year warranty, full specs, designer interior options etc you dont find in other matkets but at the same price.

I am looking forward to see the new Chinese Car from Haval (Haval H6 Sports) or Chery T5 in Malaysia, not a bad review in China.

With its huge domestic market which gives China car makers the cost advantage of economy of scale, all the China car makers need to do well in the global market is to meet world standards in safety, environmental friendliness for the mass market. For high-end market, they have not much to offer though. But the do have the massive financial might to swallow up big brand names and their technology know-how through acquisitions.

What has Euro IV standard got to do with "asbestos parts" ? [laugh] China is now taking capitalism to its most extreme, probably more capitalist than the U.S. If they can get away with cost savings for something not regulated, they will. Like how American corporations can get away with labor exploitation in 3rd world countries, GMO foods, etc.

such big country's single case cannot represent the entire country's behaviours,

China even bigger than entire Euro in area and population, so imagine whole Euro countries cases happened in China one country, of course so many negative impression

single case? i think you had too high optimism on china ...

for each reported case that cannot be covered up ... how many cases were not reported or ignored?

I think alot of many unpleasant things also happen in other AM countries. Thing is that China is up and coming and will definitely be the centre of attention. To be fair, people will hear more on China thru news and so on but not on other countries which funny things can happen too but not worth reporting. There are alot of negative news on China but good news are never make known or have we heard any good ones. Surely there are good people around.

Well, I get a sense that many people don't have a good idea of how big China (or U.S. anyway) is. SG is only 700 km2, any one major U.S. or China city is bigger than us, what kind of things will you find ? There can be hundreds of news media both local and foreign operating in each province or state. For some cities, car dealership in one precinct could sell more cars than the entire of Singapore. Why would car manufacturers customize specs for SG market ? But many feel that SG cars are the best in the world .. just because we pay more for COE ?

china is a damn big country indeed

president xi could have the best policy and intention to curb corruption or make things right

from province to state to county to precint to village > the person in charge don't give a fk what the president said ... hehe

local person in-charge = local king

this has been happening since 5000 years till now

however, with social media and weibo ... if a local person in-charge do something bad ... he/she will kena backlash very fast

hopefully with the rapid changes and rapid transmit of information, local king can be brought to justice > having said that still not believing the rule of law in china. i'm sure many have heard and experience, "impossible is possible" in china ...
