Coutinho, 22, has become a key player for the Reds since his eight million pounds move from Inter Milan in January 2013. The Brazilian playmaker started 28 Premier League matches last season as Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City. And Rodgers is keen to secure Coutinho's long-term future to aid the attacking threat of a side who scored 101 league goals during the 2013/14 campaign. Liverpool's manager told British newspapers: "A new contract for Philippe is something we will look to do over the summer. "It's all in hand. He's a valuable player and a great asset to the club. He's come in here and shown his quality, and really developed as a young player. "Now he's moving into the best years of his life as a footballer. Van Gaal and his 25-man squad fly back to Manchester in the early hours of Tuesday morning following their final game of the US tour against Liverpool. Under the new manager's guidance, United have racked up morale-boosting wins over the Los Angeles Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, but the Dutchman is still unhappy with certain aspects of his squad. Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha face uncertain futures after limited playing time in America while Marouane Fellaini and Anderson, who have not made the trip, could also be shown the door. Van Gaal wants to tell his players whether they have made the cut well before the transfer window closes so he will approach them individually and inform them of their fate when they get back to England.
