Meanwhile, updates on Pool's activities:

Manquillo is imminent.....Moreno deal is finally close.....Bony is wanted and Konoplyanka is back on the radar.

Also, Dirk Kuyt rejected Van Gaal's offer to join United because he "couldn't turn his back on #LFC fans."

The pre match show got it wrong. Pool going 4-3-3, which is a better choice against a 3-men defense. Sterling operated on the left, clearly targeting the slower Jones.

Nice tactical deployment from BR there

ESPN : Countinho on verge of new deal

Liverpool will offer Philippe Coutinho a new contract within weeks, manager Brendan Rodgers says.

Coutinho, 22, has become a key player for the Reds since his eight million pounds move from Inter Milan in January 2013.

The Brazilian playmaker started 28 Premier League matches last season as Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City.

And Rodgers is keen to secure Coutinho's long-term future to aid the attacking threat of a side who scored 101 league goals during the 2013/14 campaign.

Liverpool's manager told British newspapers: "A new contract for Philippe is something we will look to do over the summer.

"It's all in hand. He's a valuable player and a great asset to the club. He's come in here and shown his quality, and really developed as a young player.

"Now he's moving into the best years of his life as a footballer. He's 22 and hopefully by the time the next World Cup comes around he will be an important part of the Brazil team, I'm sure his best years will be at Liverpool."

ESPN : Man Utd players face axe after US tour

Louis van Gaal will sit down with his players after their tour and tell them whether they have a future at Manchester United.

Van Gaal and his 25-man squad fly back to Manchester in the early hours of Tuesday morning following their final game of the US tour against Liverpool.

Under the new manager's guidance, United have racked up morale-boosting wins over the Los Angeles Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, but the Dutchman is still unhappy with certain aspects of his squad.

Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha face uncertain futures after limited playing time in America while Marouane Fellaini and Anderson, who have not made the trip, could also be shown the door.

Van Gaal wants to tell his players whether they have made the cut well before the transfer window closes so he will approach them individually and inform them of their fate when they get back to England.

"I shall make judgements after the tour," the United boss said.

"I have let all the players play so I know now more than I did before.

"But in football you have to judge. Always you have to give a chance to a player to make a transfer when you see that his perspective is not so high to play.

"You have to say it in advance. When you say it on August 31st it's too late. I shall say to the players what I think after the tour."

Thank you sir! I'm guessing is more fiercely contested vs a normal pre-season game?

Yah, and sounds (not looks) like pool was dominating and comfortable, but was stunned by 2 goals 3 min apart… 2nd one apparently defense lapse...

2nd half liverpool switch off. The 2nd goal conceded is clearly Skrtel's fault. Now that Man U is pressing higher, Liverpool looks shaky.
