Yewheng Twincharged March 16, 2013 Share March 16, 2013 (edited) Don't panic and shift gear to N and brake to stop. Never off engine when encounter unintended acceleration when car is moving as engine off will lose braking power. Causes of unintended acceleration for cars of older model. Shift_lock 1st Gear March 17, 2013 Share March 17, 2013 Shift to N got no engine braking but can still use brakes and more importantly power steering still works so it's much better than off engine.

Heartbreakid 6th Gear March 17, 2013 Share March 17, 2013 When the car has unintended acceleration, engine braking is unspeakable since it is already stuck into accelerate mode... Wise to change to Neutral and brake and let the engine over-rev and blew itself but one got their life saved at least.
Bigbadguy 1st Gear March 17, 2013 Share March 17, 2013 Engine wont blow la. got rev cut for most cars. After successfully braking, turn off engine immediatly. Yeah turning to N is a better option den turning off the engine.

Pocus Turbocharged June 20, 2014 Share June 20, 2014 Yes neutral handbrake and off engine we all know the drill, but if things happen all a sudden at the most unexpected time, your brain tend to freeze for like a few seconds and act on instinct before logic takes over...
Kangadrool Supersonic June 20, 2014 Share June 20, 2014 some cars no handbrake..... some cars e-parking brake, how? some cars you switch off engine = no electrical supply to power steering = steering wheel will lock up = no steering control. Change gear to neutral or switch off the car? ↡ Advertisement
