The vehicle entry permit (VEP) on all outbound traffic at Johor's Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex  continues to be deferred because a high number of Singapore-registered vehicles have yet to install the radio frequency identification (RFID) tag.

Road Transport Department director general Shaharuddin Khalid said based on their records, more than 230,000 Singapore vehicles have registered for the VEP.

"However, only about 60,000 of them have installed the VEP-RFID, and we are targeting to get the remaining balance within the first six months of the year," he told reporters after officiating the Road Transport Department Station, the third in the  country, at the Pagoh rest and service area (south-bound) along the North-South Expressway.

He said the department had received a positive reaction from Singaporeans to get their VEP-RFID tags to enter the country via the Johor-Singapore Causeway and Second Link.

"Singapore-registered vehicles know the importance of registering for the VEP-RFID tag before coming into Malaysia," he said.

assuming 1 collection centre can settle 1000 cars per month

4 centers = 4000 cars per month

remaining 170k cars = 42 months = 3.5yrs

i will register vep after 3.5yrs ... LOL

and this still not factoring every month sinkieland pump out 2.5k new cars!

and those change cars like change underwear ... must de-reg and re-reg?

can reg and collect rfid until cows come home ...

The above link are many many locations in the entire Peninsula Malaysia where Malaysian vehicles can install RFID tag to their vehicles. Unfortunately, Singapore cars can only use a select few in JB area.

the msia car RFID sticker is different from the VEP one for foreign cars, although they are using the same RFID technology. The information used for registration is also different. The installation locations for Msia cars can even walk-in, don't need to apply in advance and wait/make appt.

Pls don't obfuscate the issue.

msia rfid is to pay toll

spore rfid is to register the car into a VEP system

and is there really a VEP system or just a pentium PC web server? [laugh]

Regardless having the RFID system to pay for toll charges is really very convenient... going to try it myself when I have the time... will recce one time to see if the usual tolls I pass through in Johor are all RFID enabled... if so then worth the effort to go fully wireless...
