Najib said that the decision was made following a request made by the state. "I have discussed the matter with Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and have also informed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Wahid Omar of our decision. "I have instructed him to inform the Road Transport Department (JPJ) so they can work out the details before the VEP is implemented," he said during a buka puasa event organised by the state Wednesday. "We will make an announcement later on the date of implementation and the rates for the VEP," he said. Najib also assured that a portion of the collection would be channelled to the state Government. ↡ Advertisement

macrosszero Turbocharged July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 Does that mean a third booth that we need to stop at, at the checkpoints after the kastams then the toll plaza? Hopefully they can make it more efficient by letting us pay the VEP at the toll plaza as well.

Kb27 Supersonic July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 When they start collecting VEP, the inevitable will happen. JB business will complain or shut down. It will hurt them more than it hurts us. Try shooting your own foot.
Wt_know Supersonic July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 RM20 ... zero impact ... may be less than 5% drop in business RM50 ... some impact ... business drop how many %? no sure ... knee jerk reaction may be ... eventually ... RM50 also numb and everyone still drive to JB RM100 = suicidal ... too hard to swallow When they start collecting VEP, the inevitable will happen. JB business will complain or shut down. It will hurt them more than it hurts us. Try shooting your own foot.

It should be at the custom, currently we are paying very small amount at causeway (RM2.90?) and 2nd link, if this implemented, just increase the charges.

Acewin 4th Gear July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 I travel to work weekly to check on my sister co in Johor via second link. Everyday Spore registered car coming in from JB jam till almost half of 2nd link. Think those PR whom work in spore and stay in JB will suffer most. Eventually they may switch to stay in spore. E.g Rm20 per entry so per month is 20 X 5 X 4 = Rm 400 per month If Rm50 per entry so per month is 50 X 5 X 4 = Rm1000 per month.
Chucky2007 Turbocharged July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 (edited) The scholars killed 2 birds with one stone.. More revenue from vehicles that die die have to come in..commercial truck etc Less Jams from lesser non commercial related vehicles.. The finale is... ... ... What do SG gain by increasing the toll charge per day? To earn revenue from there? Well.. maybe.. The main thing is maybe to trigger a reaction from the other side, which they think should trigger the desired reaction, which is also to increase back. the ego guy across does the same.. it's call face off earn some face.. More Singaporean detered from driving in hence lesser spending in JB... Hence mote spending in Singapore.. More local business, + more GST earned! Smart move, very smart. Then built the high speed train, revenues shared between 2 government, increase bus services etc.. Huat ah!
