Hi,

some vehicle models are less sought after, so that's why there is no body value as they will be sent to scrap.

Thanks

Hi Neutrino,

if the vehicle is in good condition, of course you can consider renewing the COE.

However, before you do that, will just break down the sums for you to consider the pros and cons.

OMV for your altis should be around 16,000, so min parf is say 8,800. Once you renew your COE, this 8,800 will be forfeited.

Lets say you renew COE for another 10 years, using the current PQP of about $64,000, which of course might differ by the time you are planning to renew the COE.

Total cost for another 10 years will be 64,000+8,800= 72,800

And assuming you are able to pay the 64k in cash as COE renewal is not an auto loan. If you get from other credit companies, interest is not very low.

Also, say after renewal, you decide to sell 5 years later. You can only get back 32,000 worth of COE rebate, no more parf as it was forfeited during the renewal.

So do you feel that it is still worth renewing?

Thanks that's good info.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a new car but it would worry me when ever I drove up north.

My 8 yo Altis is in good nick and me and the missus have no one we need to impress with a new car so I think we'll renew the COE.

Funny thing is it cost just 56k including COE to buy this Altis :D

$64K is cost of COE (assumed).

$8,800 is opportunity cost.

So you pay $64K. But get poorer by $72,800.

Hi,

It's different.

YOM is year of manufacture and registration date is the day new car dealer or end user register the car with LTA.

Thank you.

Hi,

car body values are rather transparent, certain models are unpopular, certain models are too old, there are also certain models like the sunny which have over-supply which resulted in drop in prices. It does not mean that they have $0 values, just that due to demand and supply, certain models have no demand and so these scrapyards and exporters are only willing to take in at $0.

Hi,

as what the others have helped to reply, you only need to pay the PQP for renewing the COE which was assumed to be around $64,000 but you will forfeit the $8,800 minimum parf when you renew the COE. So effectively, the car costs $72,800 for another 10 years although you paid only $64,000 upfront.

Well, I have called up few scrapeyard personally. They take in at low ballers price of $100 for body instead of even $0. Besides, the condition of my car is in pristine condition. I would rather sell off most parts to end users for few hundred bucks than throwing away at such ridiculous amount. If its not because of COE, I would extent for another 5yrs to come.

Hi,

those would most probably need you to do more things on your own such as driving your car down to the scrapyard, do your own de-registration and your own encashment (which might take up to 6 weeks to get to you). That is why they can offer you $100.

If you are looking at dismantling your car to sell your parts separately you can do so too, however, please take note that you will need to dispose the car chassis and engine to be eligible for encashment.
