Ford Galaxy - Good buy?

which means u have alot more options of cars to choose from if you don't mind older cars.

some people are looking at older cars as the COE is cheaper which means lower depreciation.

until then when all the cheap COEs are scrapped,then they will see the market situations or while driving older cars and keep a look out for market situations and wait for opportunities to enter.

unless those rich people won't blink an eye,just buy when they like it.

actually the best is to drive your current car to the end of COE and make full use of the cheap COE u got,unless u are very rich and have spare cash. don't be surprise that most of the new cars on the road are paid by companies inseatd of individual's own pocket money.

 

$16k depreciation for a Mazda 5 seems quite high especially from the cheap COE era.

are u the first owner or pre-owned?

Thanks for your comments and experience... The S-Max's space is slightly more than the Mazda 5 but of course handling wise the former would be 10 times better... I'm aiming for the Galaxy as I plan to drive this to at least the 9th year... By then my eldest daughter will be 18, my son 15 and the youngest one 12... Now already start to squabble in the back... Sometimes headache to drive when they complain non stop...

 

I did consider the maintenance costs and of course going back to the AD to get my blood sucked like when I bought the Mazda 5... Change 1 small buld also want to charge me $40 and that's before labour and GST... I guess it's a trade off between the good and the bad...

 

Impossible to find the perfect car...

XC90? As if the maintenance for the Galaxy is not expensive enough...

 

But it's the car's build that comes into play at the most critical time like the totalled car... Everyone gets to walk away...

 

In terms of space - I beg to differ. The S-Max / Galaxy (I went to see a Galaxy as well previously) has loads more space, including 3 individual seats for adults in the middle row unlike most other makes that actually feature only 2 and a half (referring to seats in popular marques like Odyssey, Mazda 5 etc) or smaller middle row seats (E.G. Touran - if you look closely, you'll notice the middle seat in the second row is actually smaller than both outer seats). The extra space in the middle row is especially useful for me since I have 2 fairly large / bulky child seats in the middle row. How many other cars actually allow you to sit an average sized adult with 2 big car seats in the middle row? Last row is also not too bad, at least you're not squashed shoulder to shoulder with head hitting the roof like what I experienced with my Mazda 5. I'm 1.8m btw.

 

Additionally, I would say, there's still some space left in the boot with the last row up, unlike our Mazda 5.

 

Agreed with regards to the safety aspect - I'm sure the Galaxy that you're looking at comes with 7 airbags (including a knee airbag) as well, since mine did & who would expect that for a 2008 car? I certainly didn't but then again it's my first conti & as you can clearly tell, I love my Ford!

 

That being said, have you factored in the OMV as well when deciding to scrap it eventually?

The last row of our Mazda 5 is indeed only for midgets and kids... With the 3rd row, boot space is as good as zero... A few plastic bags is all you can stuff inside before having to distribute the load to all the passengers...

 

You mean how much will I get back after I scrap the Galaxy? About $12.4K... My Mazda would be slightly more than $10K...

Yo I read about some 20% downpayment and the rest on loan from 2 of the ads so I gave both the company a call (V**C** & S** H** B**)... End up tell me it's some "leasing" loan thing and installment interest rate is at 3.25%...

 

Didn't ask much after that as I concluded that this is misleading...

 

Is this the same as leasing a car and at the end of the 7 years you just give the car back to the bank and you take nothing away right?

I'm driving a Mazda 5 now and my kids are growing up... Total of 6 in my family (3 kids, helper, my wife and me)... My current car's spare parts are perhaps higher than Mercs due to the fact that Mazdas are not that common here... Hondas and Toyotas are over my budget...

 

Not a must to change but just thinking ahead a bit...

 

Spoke to the dealer and expected to hear that they are not so willing to allow test drives unless the price is right... Wanted to bring the car to a Ford specialist (Allen Workshop) but he suggested to go to STA or VICOM instead as the latter are more "neutral"...

 

The handbrake is a novelty... Have read that it must be lubricated regularly to keep the squeaks away...

i only compare absolute figure of depreciation/year till scrap. But i'm the type that will drive most cars to 9th year at least unless have a real need to change.

The car is 2.5 years old and mileage is 60K so still under warranty (5 years or 100,000KM)...

 

ADs are blood suckers...

Price seems reasonable to me. I've been there once and the same service personnel was attending to the Ford side before coming over to me. I think the Ford service center must have diversified to service other makes because business was not good (not enough Ford cards sold).

but the interest rate is definitely higher than the banks which is probably they are "trying to help" those who can't cough out minimum 40%-50% downpayment so they provide their own in-house loan at a higher intesrest rate. this way they earn higher intesrest rate and higher loan amount contributues to higher intesrest earned.

Cannot afford leh... Those on the market registered in 2011 already at least $10K to $20K more than this Galaxy... Compare those same year ones lagi expensive... Top up a bit more can get a new Galaxy liao...

I will sure bargain but must make him desperate enough... He just posted this on the 11th of Aug and it's reposted today... I will not rush into it as I did for my Fit RS and Mazda 5... Got into the dealer's trap as I bought both cars on a Tuesday and the next day is COE bidding (what a "coincidence") but I cannot blame anyone but myself for rushing...

 

Going to view it hopefully on Monday or Tuesday and will update this thread again...

When I called the dealer at S** H** B** and asked about a 2014 Wish 1.8X going at $126888 and saw in the description saying 20% downpayment and monthly is $1366... The reply i got was that this is a leasing loan so the car will be registered to the bank and not to me... As you mentioned higher interest rate and repayment period is 7 years... If I want to own the car aka transfer the car under my name, I will have to pay the difference (remaining loan amount)...

I've been monitoring the galaxy and s-max for the past 6 months and the ones that were priced right gets taken very fast, not these 2 with rather high mileage.
