Just a quick check. I usually look for low number of ownership (<3) and low mileage (<120,000km) when getting a 9 year old car to renew 10 year COE.  But there is always a risk that the mileage has been tempered with.

 

Now, assuming that there is this 1-owner, 9 year-old car which has been diligently-serviced by Tan Chong, the mileage is probably more genuine but at a high of 190,000km, would you consider getting this car for COE renewal?

My friend has a Daihatsu Terios 1.5m with a mileage of above 300 000 km, around 12 years old. He is the first owner.

 

His 2 other friends have cars above 500 000 km.

 

So yes. If you take care of it well it should be fine.

 

But wear and tear parts replacement is inevitable.

 

So prepare to spend some $ to replace.

 

Of course luck plays an important part too.

 

Every now and than I read about people selling their problematic cars. So basically its shifting the problem to someone else.

 

It's weird but everyone does that.

9 years old car expect to do a bit of maintenance replacing usual wear and tear items.

 

Serviced by Tan Chong or authorizes dealer doesn’t mean much. It’s uktimately up to the customer to decide if they want things replaced. Most of the time these AD won’t even check the overall condition unless customer complaints.

 

High mileage cars is actually better when buying used car, cos the owner needs to use the car often and won’t be tolerating breakdowns. So it usually is better maintained.
