jcchia 3rd Gear July 2, 2017 Share July 2, 2017 I have a family car that's due middle of next year. It's a under 100 k mileage camry. Now don't know should renew or not. The parf is about 12500. I was thinking renewing cat b Coe for 10 years because I can spread the parf loss. The reason why I renew is so that I can pay without loan. But there is an increase on road tax. The total cost of it if I assume Coe as of now is 60k. Will I be able to sell it at Coe plus pro rated parf after that after a few years? Or should I get a smaller car like a Mazda 3 for 90k with minimum loan 1 year 30k. The omv on it is about 18.5k Any thoughts on this? Yr mileage is low, whether this car is giving u much problem lately (I doubt so). You may hold back till near date to see PQP rate.
Ian1 2nd Gear July 2, 2017 Share July 2, 2017 I think it really depends on whats important to you. Camry is a solid and reliable car. Amongst the quietiest of all Japanese cars. Downside... old technology. Less fuel efficient, underpowered. The new camry is awesome. Nicier than even the Toyota / Lexus ES300 and GS300

Between renewing a Camry or getting a new Mazda 3, I am inclined to renew :- 1. by next year mileage will be around est 120k, still plenty to go for a Toyota (I assume its regularly serviced) 2. Mazda 3 is a smaller car, unless you no longer have need for a large family sedan 3. increase in road tax post-renewal is not a major cost component, relatively speaking. 4. no increase in personal debt liability. Once renewed, I think market value is probably remaining COE only, I doubt the PARF forgone can be recovered, its a sunk cost. Assuming June 2018 Cat B PQP is $50,000 (my guess is it will be lower), total cost = $50,000 + $12,500. = $62,500.

I don't really courage people to renew their cars but I mean if finance is an issue , it's always good to renew and save some $. The fuel consumption of the old camry is not that bad, in affect is almost comparable with some of the newer sedans in its category. It's mainly on how much you use the car. If you hardly drive it, it's good to extend. But if you drive it very frequently , it's actually good to get a new car because the new car is more safety features, more air bags , etc. I think it really depends on whats important to you. Camry is a solid and reliable car. Amongst the quietiest of all Japanese cars. Downside... old technology. Less fuel efficient, underpowered. The new camry is awesome. Nicier than even the Toyota / Lexus ES300 and GS300 Yes I agree.. Camry is truly a good car. I would say many camry owners 90% of them that owned the camry or are driving camry will say that too. Even those that upgraded from camry to something better will say camry is a good car too If my car yet to reach 10 years, 2 yrs left. Can I buy COE now to extend? Seeking any help or advice from PRO here. Thanks a lot Don't do that , unless the COE now is $1 or $10 or very cheap.

If u inclined on renewing COE, I would wait for next year before renewing, reason is I believe COE will drop next year to balance out the likely increase in new car prices but of course some gamble there as u never know in COE market. If I intend to get a new one, better to buy this year I feel for the same reasons as above. Whether to renew or not likely depends on how u feel the condition of the car is as u would hv some idea I'm sure. Mz3 u may find underpowered coming from a higher cc car, just my 2 cents....

Not advisable to Renew COE for >1600cc vehicle as PARF is High >$10K OK for those <1600cc (less than)

Theres a significant difference in the car when it age. Smaller CC cars are also usually smaller and it can get rather unstable when it ages. I would go for the opposite, big CC cars are worth to extend whereas small CC cars are not worth to extend.. I dont mind driving an Attrage than driving a 10 year old Toyota Altis or equivalent for another 10 years.. I would get the PARF value at the end of the 10 years and buy an attrage.

Nonewposts 4th Gear July 5, 2017 Share July 5, 2017 Am referring to one of my cars, which has got 3 years more to go ...40k parf should be s class or 7 series category. If u renew Coe at 50k and forgo 40k of parf , annual depreciation is aroumd 10k per year for 10 years old ride but brand new 7 series easily go for 30k to 40k depreciation per year. Atrecord Supersonic July 6, 2017 Share July 6, 2017 Do we need to send car for inspection before renewing COE for car hitting 10 years? inspection is at yr 3, 5, 7, 9. Near 10 yr, no need inspection. But after renew, at 11 yr, need to go again. In 6 mth's time, i can tell you whether yr 12 got inspection or it's still same (once every 2 yr)... renewing is v simple. Dun even need go LTA. Can use internet banking. Just clicked, done... Old car vs the newest, latest model? I'd take the latter anytime!
