Second headless body found in three days in Penang

Another headless body of a woman has been found in Penang - just three days after an earlier shocking discovery.

The body's torso and arms were found stuffed into a luggage bag in Jalan Kebun Bunga, which leads to the Penang Botanic Gardens.

The Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi added that the torso was wrapped in a blanket.

He said: "This is the most gruesome case we have come across this year. We believe the crime took place at a different location and the body was dumped here. She could have been dead for between 24 and 36 hours."

Two cases are not connected

On Tuesday it was reported that the body of a headless woman, identified as Halimahtusakidiah, 33, from North Sumatra, was found floating in the sea.

SDCP Abdul Rahim said that the two cases are not connected.

In the most recent case, a cleaner who was sweeping the car park came across the suitcase under a tree at about 8am and informed his colleagues and supervisor.

They used a wooden stick to poke around the partially unzipped suitcase.

"There was a strong stench. After a few pokes, we saw a hand with fair skin," he said.

Penang Hospital's senior consultant forensic pathologist concluded that the young victim had "died of ligature strangulation as there were marks on her neck".

Her head and lower body were severed after she died.

Possibility of a serial killer shouldn't be ruled out

A criminologist said that the possibility of a serial killer on the loose should not be ruled out.

Associate Professor Dr P. Sundramoorthy said: "Whether it's ritualistic, serial, non-serial or crime of passion, we cannot rule out anything."

There have also been 17 cases of murder victims found with their throats slit in the past 10 months in Penang.

All those victims were Myanmar nationals, and the press reported that it could have been the result of a dispute between Muslims and Buddhists from Myanmar.
