New 2015 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire

OMG, what were the designers thinking when they design (can I even use this word at all) the Alphard front end?

It looks hideous. :( No wonder most JDM models remained in Japan... the shape and design will not work in other countries.

Seems like the front and rear end looked super busy while the side profile continues to be simple slabsided affair.

Seriously, this new Alphard does looked like some cheap rip offs from any Chinese manufacturers. Toyota may have outsourced the designs to China to keep the cost down haha...

Vellfire looks better but I wont call it pretty either.

For the alphard front, looks like it can swallow up any smaller things (like the mini that Mr Bean drives) that is in its way :D

The front got fierce Gangster's chief look. [sly]

Oops....hope to buy it in a few mths (hopefully).

itll look better in the flesh lah.

anyway since i got an MPV already, the version i wld change to is the hybrid, but duno if AD will ever bring it in..

the new model itself isnt a big change other than new electronic gadgets, so prefer an engine upgrade, which is wat costs the most in a car anyway

It got a new 2.5l AR engine - the same one used in the current Camry. Previously it was using the 2.4l AZ engine. V6 option is the same engine though.

Understanding Types/Specs

After analysing the website. spoke to some PI, browse the brochure (thanks to the PI), this is what I conclude....pls edit/add for any errors, thanks.

Alphard vs Vellfire - only exterior differences, interior is the same (for the same specs).

Borneo motors will bring in alphard only, not vellfire. BM alphard will have English wording in speedometer, no limit on cruise control at 110km/hr, English manual, LTA friendly not dark tinted middle and third row.

Base Alphard - X model

Base Vellfire - X model

- no bodykit/less chrome

- no memory seat for driver

- no electric seat for driver

- no side blinds for middle and 3rd row

- steering wheel no wood

- ?cruise control

- usual rear bumper reflector (look the same as wish/camry/new harrier)

Higher specs X model Alphard - G model

Higher specs X model Vellfire - V model

(bigger console box for front passenger, side blinds for middle and 3rd row, cruise control, memory seat)

Sports Alphard - S model

Sports Vellfire - Z model

- same base specs as X model but externally have "bodykit" more chrome, bigger vertical rear bumper reflector, different sports rims

Higher specs Sports Alphard - 2 different subtypes

- SA (no memory seats)

- SC (with middle executive electric seats, bigger console box for front passenger, additional handle for middle passenger, power tailgate)

Higher specs Sports Vellfire - 2 different subtypes

- ZA (no memory seats)

- ZG (with middle executive electric seats, bigger console box for front passenger, additional handle for middle passenger, power tailgate)

Highest specs available (only 7 seats)

- Executive lounge

- badge at the rear "Executive lounge"

- middle row executive seat with individual table, remote control, USB/electric charger

Beige/light interior not available for Sports version - ie all black.

Twin moonroof - options (can add on for any version)

Pearl white/Metallic black - options, usually additional 1K from PI

(normal black code 202 no need top up)

The long slide front seat passenger that can slide all the way to middle row is not available for middle row executive seats.

Things not sure

1) Moonroof is it similar to existing model, ie front only tilt up and rear can open fully. Hopefully, the rear moonroof do not follow current estima ie glass cannot open, only just sliding inner shade.....

2) Absence of blind spot monitor for side mirror

3) The front LED lights is it position light or daytime running lights

4) Front fog lights LED or normal halogen

5) Rear fog lights available?

6) reverse lights LED or normal bulb

7) Auto open sliding door upon approach/auto lock standard on all model or only the executive lounge.

8) One touch open close auto door standard?

9) Front Cornering lights standard?

Cheers!

price?

Checking the Toyota Japan site, the list price for the lowest end VellFire 2.5l 2WD X grade is about the same as the Harrier Premium - which most PIs sell today around 160k.

So once the new model fever is over, regular supply and no big change in SGD/JPY exchange rate - probably 170k can get one, assuming no CEVS rebate (Harrier has 10k CEVS).
