I'm a nurse. Ask me anything about nursing

There might be.  You must understand that radiology is not merely xray or scans.  There is this also.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interventional_radiology

So it's possible there are nurses there assisting the doctor.  And not merely technicians.

Yes that's why I said I'm not sure.

Techs can assist with interventions too. But it's possible they have nurses helping with patient care etc.

Radiation Oncology is another such grey area.

By the way, I wouldn't use the word "merely" when it comes to describing techs. I'm not sure about Radiology "technicians" but in Pathology subdisciplines, at least, the "medical technologists" are extremely specialised, both theoretically and practically. From an applied scientific perspective in their chosen field and in related disciplines like statistical process control, I would say they know more than a typical nurse and even a typical GP level doctor.

After reading your reply and re reading my reply I get what you mean.  I meant "merely" as another word for "only".  Not meant to be derogatory but I realise "only" can be understood in both ways.

So my statement was actually meaning there might be nurses assisting the doctors together with technicians, as opposed to only technicians with no nurses involved.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

A few other settings where I've seen lots of male nurses:

Rehab: male nurses are useful for their physical strength in moving patients around, there's a lot of this required in rehab (and the physios are often female and need help). A lot of the neuro rehab patients require regular (4h) in-out catheterisation (with post-void ultrasound) for emptying their bladders. Technically, they're not supposed to touch this procedure for males (owing to the longer urethra and anatomical obstructions) and leave it to doctors but the male nurses often help with the male patients. This is, of course, predicated on good will between nurses and doctors. If a doctor is a metaphorical prick, no favours in handling literal pricks will be done. Fortunately, I got along well with the male nurses so they were always happy to help. 🙂

IMH: another big area. In the chronic wards, there are a lot of female nurses but males are still hired in case the patients turn aggressive. One area where it's pretty much 100 percent male is in the forensic ward (block 7 if memory serves). Those are the criminal cases. And the nurses are usually the huge muscular kind, often with previous gang involvement themselves. Quite fun, hearing their stories, bunch of cool guys.

Forensic wards?! oh interesting.... wards for jail birds? ha ha that one no matter how fierce u talk to the paitent I guess u will not beat the policeman guarding them!

I actually have a friend which we agree on to sign up for the coming pcp. She is very into working for the dead.... maybe she can consider Pathology.

Anyway both of us are into our 40s, so other than the calling, we don't really aim high for career path as age is our consider point. Maybe up till a registered nurse or SN1 we will be happy.

No nurses in Pathology.

Not sure about Radiology, but I believe they're all technologists like in Pathology.

Radiology, their interventional radiology division should have nurses.

Pathology, I am not sure but if hematology is included, then those blood sucking vampire nurses may be hanging around.

You should know better than I.

By the way, any chance you can explain why turboflat4 when you interest is largely MeCeD, Felali. Macleland

I am Ash because your buddy (Radx) keeps burning me until I chau tar

Blood suckers are phlebotomists, not nurses.

KNS, my misi wife kena barred from going to Msia due virus scare. Is it the same for the rest?

As far as I know there shouldnt be any issues.  WHAT might be the issue is all annual leave is cancelled cos of lack of staff as many staff are under quarantine.  It happened during SARs.

Tricky statement.  It's like SAF soldiers will have their leaves cancelled and weekends burned if there is genuine threat of war.

This inconvenience comes with the job.

So @Ash2017 dont forget to tell your colleagues to raise the pay of nurses ok?

When Mr Tan Ser Kiat was around, I often tell him so at our drinking sessions.

From what I know most hospital staff leave are all not approved. Unless those had been applied and approved earlier so management LL got to let them go. That is happening on my side. Human path way are also bring control within hospital premises now.

All needed for the screening are undergoing in setting up now.

Salute to those colleagues will be in the frontline doing screening and security. Last few days had not been easy for them. Same goes for the nurses taking care of the youngest confirm case now.

Agree, I can speak from experience from the Tsunami. Not the direct frontline but on the support side.

As much as we can, the regulars cancell our leave and in those difficult times we see true leadership in our officers!! Leade and care for men!

Actually I think it's not so much that you are safer at work but you know what is going on while outsiders depend on social media and hearsay to get info, which can be misleading and terrifying.
