Myxilplix Turbocharged January 31, 2015 Share January 31, 2015 Just throwing this out here is case anyone might have a recommendation. I'm looking for someone that is willing to have a go at troubleshooting and repairing a motorcycle dashboard (lcd panel type). Suspected problem is a joint or solder crack due to vibration over time as the problem was first intermittent at higher vibration levels and then degraded. I have been told that the lcd panel is now totally blank (backlight is fine, warning lights are fine, just the lcd display kaput). So no harm letting someone have a go at it and see if anything can be done, i have already sourced a replacement from Italy but thought maybe i'd give this idea a shot. The unit is small (approx. 20cm x 12cm) and a self contained unit, only one CANBUS input in from the ECU if i'm not wrong. Can be easily removed and transported. From my understanding it is purely a display unit and does not contain any immobilizer. If anyone has suggestions for a shop or even an electronics hobbyist please let me know. ↡ Advertisement
Beehive3783 Turbocharged January 31, 2015 Share January 31, 2015 Have you tried asking the shops at Sim Lim Tower to see if they can help? Myxilplix Turbocharged January 31, 2015 Author Share January 31, 2015 Have you tried asking the shops at Sim Lim Tower to see if they can help? Yep will be checking out Sim Lim Tower also. Rode the bike today and the lcd screen is not totally dead, there are occasional flickers of life. I'm guessing whatever crack exists is getting worse. Myxilplix Turbocharged February 9, 2015 Author Share February 9, 2015 Just to update, the dad of my close friend dabbles in electronics/circuit boards and agreed to take a look. The problem just turned out to be an intermittent contact at one of the LCD edge connectors. His solution: He glued a toothpick under the ribbon connector. He tested it with shaking and vibration, all steady. Gotta love old experts and their MacGyver solutions. He just saved me about 1k on a replacement dashboard. ↡ Advertisement
