Wa, where you got your $4 meal? Quite cheap wor... Cheapest I got was around $6-7 for a bowl of ramen, free water... But it was so darn delicious! (Akihabara small shops)

Drop by their don chain stores lor, Sukiya, Yoshinoya, you can also get similarly priced Udon bowles. Soba is just what i found at the bottom of one of the major train stations. Ramen usually cost more.

Ah, I see.. I seldom went into the chain stores in Japan. I prefer to try the small one shop one shop kind.

It's OK, Japan is a country I don't mind spending money in.

When you spend more money there, the quality does go up (most of the time, in my own experience), so it's worth it. In Singapore, spend more money at a Japanese restaurant, quality goes up maybe little bit, or sometimes, no difference.

I find it cheap if its in hawker centres/coffee shop. I normally spend about $2.50 to $3 per meal if I eat out. I don't buy drinks cuz I have my own water bottle.

Bro Nzy, u really heng u live near hawker centre. My place only has coffeeshop and food court. All food price increase like no tomorrow. Generally, food price is in the upward trend. Can't really find cheap food these days unless one deliberately travel to find (Which make no sense cos petrol price would cost more than the meal). How is it possible to find cheap thing when all products and services (directly and indirectly) are slapped with layers & layers of taxes???
