I did a marie kondo a few years back. Never looked back.

I won't stay in a mickey mouse unit but 2 pax in a 2,800 sq ft condo without helper is excessive.

Personally, 900 - 1000 sq ft with a balcony for 2 old folks is ideal.

Balcony is to force me to plant so that I will always be moving, carrying soil, pots and squatting and standing during the gardening process.

Can lah.  My place 3600 sft also no helper.   Importantly must be willing to be self reliant.
when retired, can do more house chores.   Wahahah

I am lazy to do household chores.

Rather spend those time running or cycling.

1.3k sq ft is enough for me

After the kids moved out, yes, that would be sufficient.

Gardening can be therapeutic, I used to maintain a small garden but stopped due to workload. Might pick it up again when I am retired.

Actually I prefer to go small as I age as I am into living minimally.  The more things I owned, the more burden on my mental load to take care of those things. And the more mental load to think about, the more emotional toil which then affects other important and more meaningful aspects of life such as health and relationship.

Less mental burden and one can free up that mental capacity to truly pursue things that he/she is passionate about or at least less stress towards better health.

But I am just a cai png guy who does things differently.  Can ignore . lol.

I agree wholeheartedly about having more things means more stuff to maintain and fix. Managing both my own and parents place, things to fix or get people to fix, plus car maintenance, plus computer crap. Some times things break one after the other.

No end to fixing shit.
have to train the kids to fix their own computers.

Kids need their own space.

Old liao, probably 900-1100 should be very comfortable. As long as don't need a own private gym room.

But the new places rooms are way too small lah.

I'm a person who likes to lie in bed when I'm not in kitchen or doing other chores. So I dislike having a small bedroom. Nowadays all trend toward bigger communal space, tiny as f bedrooms.
