This Amos Yee....I think that's something pathologically wrong with him. He may be a bright spark when younger but with the onset of puberty, somehow the chemistry or wiring in his brain had gone wrong.

Turbocharged

Meanwhile, the young boy who posted a hoax message, left off with stern warning.....

Teen was fed up with various hoax messages about LKY’s death

In the midst of the hoo-ha over the status of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s condition while he was hospitalised last month, one teen got fed up with the amount of fake messages and rumours which were popping up on social media about Mr. Lee’s death. He then created a fake image of the PMO website with the message that Mr. Lee had died.

The image ended up spreading far and wide, and the police came knocking.

The 15-year-old teen, referred to as ‘Z’ by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), was let off with a stern warning by the police after the AGC determined that he had not meant to disseminate the picture beyond his circle of friends.

Picture wasn’t meant to be spread

After making the hoax picture, Z had shared it with his friends. Although after two minutes he told them that the picture was fake, two minutes were enough time for at least one of them to pass the image on.

As if to prove his point, the hoax picture went viral, even fooling foreign publications like CNN and CCTV. Z was hauled up by police the next day.

The AGC ruled that because Z had not hacked into the PMO website or intended for the picture to be spread, he was to be let off with a stern warning.

Lesson learned: always check your sources

That’s the power of social media for you; in a highly-charged environment amidst persistent rumours of LKY’s condition faltering further, few bothered to check the authenticity of the picture, and the fact that the PMO website was down at that very moment for maintenance did not help matters.

One click is enough for the picture to spread far and wide, across borders. Some will say that a stern warning is not a strong enough deterrence to prevent such hoaxes from being circulated in the future, while others may argue that his point was proven and he had no malicious intentions.

For a 15-year-old, he seems awfully social media-savvy; something which probably can’t be said about CNN. However, creating a hoax to prove a point about hoaxes doesn’t sound especially smart, given the severity of the situation.

Hopefully this boy can learn from this, and not repeat ...

hope he can grow up and be more responsible and mature....

hope he know how much his parents love him...

You cannot use 2015 yardstick to apply it to events in 1980s, 1960s or 1940s. This young brat did just that.

‘Alternate’ Historians Post-LKY: The “Four Tactics of Mass Distraction”

Hence what really drives some Alternate historians and their supporters is what is called presentism – an orientation to the past coloured by current ideological and political biases and concerns. Some Alternate historians appear to sift through the historical record purposefully to find facts that mesh with what they want to say. This, lest it be forgotten, is not history but propaganda.

On an open society like the US, that will be applicable. Simply because there is open debate and review by academics and all without fear.

This is not the US, propaganda here is cradle to the grave.. and it's not from alternative anythings.

The MSM and their established masters are the ones spreading propaganda and trying very very hard to prevent any one questioning their party version of Singapore history. As told by the victors.

In open societies, how u manipulate the people is via the media.

Open debate doesn't matter when most people get their information from the media, newspapers or now increasingly news websites/twitter/FB.

The information is out there lah. Just whether u want to go find it or whether u believe what the website tells you.

Hard truth - whether u are manipulated by the govt via SPH vs the media baron via the news.

U are still being manipulated.

trying very very hard meh? i don't see them blocking much on the internets...

Reason is he's looking for the information he wants to see/read.

Ok lah, i think it's obvious that our newspapers are state controlled. Can't defend that part.

But if u look at the West or even simply malaysia, you can see what the owner of a newspaper can do to influence the entire writing style of a newspaper.

in UK,

If u read the Guardian, u know what news u going to get. Similarly for people who read the other papers. U can even characterise the personality of the person by the newspaper they are holding.

in USA, if u read the WSJ, NY Times. U know what kinda people are going to read the respective papers.

People read and watch selectively.

Lol in SG, it's no choice. all newspaper is zheng hu lol.

They can't, not that they don't want to. Fact is MSM still have the most widespread influence among the general populace and there is only 1 version out there, be it on the TV, radio wave, newspapers, etc.

There is a lynch mob out there and we must give partial credit to our MSM.

If you purely talking about information been blocked that here is not the case, beside the local msm, you get information from all over the world which no one is blocking. The only different is the consequences which the human rights group is advocating.

The is a reason why MSM is "main stream".

It's IS the main source of info (and some blatant brain wash) for the general public.

Of course you can find info on the Internet, we are definitely better than China, great achievement.

Even in the worst regimes, you can still find ways to Google info if you have connection. It's the MSM that's still the societal yardstick.

Saying info can be found online is just like we're told your family can live well on $1000/month if you try. How relevant is that in the big picture?

Our govt is trying to keep influence over the media (for better or worse) to prevent external influences from taking over our media which is inevitable in a free economy.

It's one thing that is not free in SG and will always remain so.

I refer you to Rupert Murdoch.

This man was not happy with the liberal views and news reporting in USA. Mainly Ted Turner's CNN.

I used to think Fox news was like that due to its viewer population. But no. Fox news is a deliberate creation of Rupert Murdoch to create a news channel featuring Right wing/conservative news reporting (DELIBERATE) to reflect his own views of that being generally right wing and a strong conservative.

In UK, the Murdoch papers will publicly back a certain candidate for the elections. And with the full weight of his press machine influencing the elections, isn't it obvious that every PM of the UK had to have his implicit backing before they can take office? And they can never risk turning on him, cos he can destroy them when election time comes along.

He destroyed john major in the early 1990s with his press machine going against him. Even though prior to that, Murdoch was a strong backer of the Tory party.

This man tried to go into China via HK in the late 90s to 2000s but was setback due to the strong China central control on media/newspaper.
