Convertible/Roadster vs coupe

Supercharged

Drove a coupe simply because I would rather get a motor bike if I really crave the feeling of wind in my face .... Just wear the old style strap type without visor.

After riding bikes, I know how dirty and dusty our roads are, plus the smell really lingers. No open top for me.

I use to have a cabrio when my 2 kids are still young, easier to load them into the child seat behind.

Always have other driver or passenger waving at them when the top is down.

But there are times we have to struggle trying to strap or carry them from the seat when the roof is up.

We had one not so long ago, bought it on a whim, sold it a few months later. Trust me, it's overrated. The Lotus Elan we had a few years back gave a much rawer experience and was a more fun drive despite being FWD. Also remember that the Elan is usually cited as the inspiration for the MX-5 - always go back to the "source" if you can.

Why I say it's overrated is that it was underpowered and not that engaging to drive. Chris Harris (an automotive journo I actually respect) has always stated this, even though he's softened his stance a bit after the hardcore fanboys started the full-on flamefest.

The best convertible I've ever driven is the 911 Cabrio I sold. That's got more than enough power to give you a great feeling on the road, so you never feel it's a compromise. And the sound with the open top down and the sports exhaust mode on...oh boy.

1.6L or 1.8L?

It is in my list for retirement car.

Don't really like the shape of the Elan.. Don't think many can own a 911, let alone a 911 cabrio.. Currently, the more affordable convertibles I know of are the MX-5, MR-S, Copen (too small).. Mostly not in the powerful range.. If upgrade abit, can go for 350Z Roadster, which I think should have more than enough power for Singapore..

How come nvr think of Mini Cooper S cabrio?

Depre abit too high.. Plus, it's a 4 seater, I was looking only at 2 seater convertibles. I'm selfish, and would be more selfish if I was richer, hahahaha...

MRS > Z4 / Elise (though Elise depre is too high, and insurance is going to be a killer) > Gallardo Spyder > Aventador Roadster...

Dream.

For pure 2 seater, that will be Mini Cooper S Roadster.

What's depreciation for MRS?

Ah, cool, didn't know that there was a 2 seater Mini convertible.. Only saw the coupe(?) twice on the roads.

I thought your previous ride was an MR-S? Currently, see those on market around 12-13K+ a year..

My MRS was bought @ Bro-Bro price. Not sure what's current price now.

But MX-5 has never been about power. It's about lightweight and handling. I heard that the NC (third gen) version was slightly lacking over the other versions, but the first two gens (the NA first gen especially) were sublime. Of course cannot compare to Lotus la. Lotus are specialists when it comes to these sort of cars.
