I thought wear tear like damage to engine mount or bearing replacement require more usage, does it mean if I will drive less it would break down those part quicker?

There are rubber components which will harden over time if there is no flexing. Wheel bearings if use daily, its like doing cleaning, rather than letting something to grow/rust/oxidizes. Not so technical in this area. I do have periods where i only using the car once per month. In the end, got a lot more problems compared to using the car on a daily basis.

Thank you for reply, I use my car on daily basis (even like driving for 30 min or so 😁).

Just to update, bill was around 6k.
Labor cost around 1.6k and compressor around 1.4k (like they installed FISHER & PAYKEL 363L FRIDGE under my hood). so alone labor + compressor is half of my bill.

Wondering if any other bro have replaced their compressor and it cost them around 1.4k?

Why the compressor cost 1.4k... the knife is too sharp.

Hi,

I also had wiper issue error issue which is a faulty valve .. think sgd120 at BMS AMK.

I have 3x50k km svc package with them and frankly I dun bother to haggle with MI .. if it is out of warranty, I just go to BKS woodlands or BMS AMK unless safety related under recall e.g. broken exhaust hinge.

Warranty period exists for a reason if it fails early which unfortunately the fxt has several that may out of warranty period .. I am just waiting for 4th front bushing change and 3rd bearing change (1st one during warranty) after 90k km 🤣

Cheers.

Curious, why BMS AMK n not BKS AMK? 😂

Ymmv but for BKS, I am only with Ah Keong at Woodlands and not Alan at Amk Autopoint just 2km from my home ... suffice to say no chemistry after 1st try and nvr back there.

BMK Amk Autopoint cos same reason of 2km and also ok cost (rising) but more basic work and not more complex stuff cos I like Ah Keong who supervise quite meticulously himself while Ah Boy not always at shop to do so.

Cheers.

1.4k is like 170% from your value.
I hope admin open a thread with all cautionary tails to keep informed those stupid like me 😂.

Ok like heart pain but lesson learned, never again anything change from Subaru.

As we on this note, anyone knows if someone do upholstery of Subaru. My ride is only 4.5years and one side of back seat is kena  thorn in middle. Subaru charging 998$ (basic) for entire  ride and somehow including steering wheel push price to 1,188$. Not sure if it is expensive?

My steering wheel wrapped over with nappa leather for $180 in 2018. Now should be more ex.

I meant based on current pricing given by subaru. It is cheaper in subaru shop.

998 without wheel, 1,188 with wheel. so wheel cost 190$ (which based on inflation should be cheaper).

Wah Subaru quality seems quite lousy for a Japanese make.

Hi MkI22,

Indeed as compared to Toyota but at least no safety related but unresolved power loss, unable to release electronic brakes as well as leaking piston ring etc. of pre 2016 Jun Nissan Qashqai 🥲

My many previous Honda concerto, accord etc. also had recurring drive shaft issues and of course the infamous VW dsg gear issues ... not to mentioned Sirocco 🤣

Again for 350Nm and 242 bhp on the cheap, I have absolutely no regret for my fxt till date especially since modded to my preference 😊

Cheers.

Hi,

Cannot compare .. AD has different overhead and service $ is a significant income stream. Else car and service prices and spares will also be further increase.

They also have access to info, including recall from principal mfgrs, warranty etc. as well as established service levels compared to also many errant workshops.

Hence forums like this one can help on specific cases and issues.

Cheers

I agree.  AD needs to have a workshop to support warranty repairs and servicing. Although they may get a cut from the sales price, this may only help a little to their bottom line. They also specialised in one brand so they do not have the chance to increase revenue from serving other makes. When I compare the servicing cost between AD and 3rd party workshops, I note that the greatest difference is in the labour cost. The spare parts cost may be more expensive but only slightly.

For example, when I replaced a bumper (not Subaru),  the price quoted for the number was (I think) $800 from the 3rd party and $900 - $1K . But the labour cost was about $150 by the 3rd party, including painting but the AD charges close to $500. Moreover, the 3rd party will take 1 day to complete the work (because they spray the bumper before I send in the car while the AD will only start work after I sent it in). So for non-crucial works, a reliable 3rd party workshop is the one to go to.

In another example, I needed to make substantive repairs after an accident. I left this to the AD workshop as this was an insurance claim. It took some time for the work to be done, but the AD workshop did a great job. I am not sure if a 3rd party workshop will be able to do it but the attention to the smallest details of the repair was what I was happy about.

AD workshop has to be careful in how they deal with their customer.  If they are seen to be profiteering, they will lose the trust of the customers, and once lost, it is unlikely they will return. This will then reduce their customer base which in turn reduce their revenue source. Much worst for the AD, for customers who base their buying decision of new cars on the AD workshop service, this may cause them to lose new car business as well.

a genuine compressor usually costs >1k, what the aircon shops supply are oem/aftermarket. While similar in form, fit, function but specs may not measure up 100%. For the average owner though, it does not matter. aircon tech has not changed much over the years.

Mr Kim replaced my cooling coil with an impreza! one, it was pretty cheap and works perfect.

There is 1 job however that you should definitely get done at AD - CVT fluid change. It cost me $180 at MI, cheaper than outside $200+. XT uses (7L?) hi-torque cvt fluid, the oil alone is pretty damn ex even at the stockists. and there's a peace of mind the right fluid, genuine product, correct quantity is replaced at the AD. For comparison, VW charges $600+ (IIRC?) for a 2L fluid change of the dry clutch DSG.

Indeed 180 is a good deal and no brainer one to be done at MI .. mine at MI is done free at 50k km I think under svc package signed to 150k km.

Nvrtheless, I go to outside ws e.g. Khang Auto Transmission Ubi etc. alternately every 30k km for total flush at 350 as MI only can do drain and top up with almost 2l of used cvt fluid mixed back to new one (hence some use magnetic drain plug to try to alleviate this on metal debris due to wear and tear).

Not absolutely needed but I wish to take good care of the cvt and like the quietness and smoothness after each svc just like 7-8k km eo change of Motul 300v also alternately between MI at sgd76 topup under svc package and outside ws BMS.

Cheers.
