Dear all,

I happen to know this elderly, who stay at Whampoa those studio flat aka 1 room flat. Is there any society or charity group that I can refer the elderly to? Who wants to live independently.

I don't think Whampoa has those emergency button like what redhill and queentown(if I am not wrong) nor people checking the status of these elderly. To be frank and upfront I am worried that even when he passes on nobody will know until the body rot and smell.

Can anyone bros refer me society or organisation that is able to help this elderly. I am just seeing how I can help.

Thank you for reading

Whampoa under toa payoh-bishan town council...look for the MP or town council for assistance.

Very hard for me to go as I am a resident of the west, furthermore MP help in this is also limited. That why I am looking for voluntary organisation who are able to help

this type of 'nursing home' is very common in msia, and not every house look so 'luxury', did Kenneth ask the owner how much they charge per client?

will this work in sg in bigger scale? it depends. Are the neighbours happy with such 'aging home' and aging senior living next door? with ambulance and police drop by every other week?

what are the service standard from home to home? a private nursing home charges from $2k/month onward for a maybe 6-8 bedded room. Those social welfare type with govt subsidy base on family income can be lower but i think minimum still around $700. This type of landed or 'bungalow' style easily $3-5k and above.

On the other hand, the community care apartments concept that was launched with shared nursing facilities (https://www.hdb.gov.sg/buying-a-flat/bto-sbf-and-open-booking-of-flats/finding-a-new-flat/types-of-flats/community-care-apartments) is quite good, i think still at testing stage, they will probably build more of this in future when proven successful.

Yah. I agree. The two spectrum of elderly who either staying with a domestic worker or staying at a nuring home might be a different profile.

Domestic work - elderly might be anti social or hard to gel with a group. Can still jump jump run run, but need some supervision.
Nursing home - those bo pian elderly, maybe had a fall before, or dementia. need constant supervision, bowel assistance and all. So will be more cost efficent to put in nursing home.

I think this type of bungalow nursing home, need some more study. why we need a small nursing home? why the elders want to choose to stay there instead of thier own home.

Money aside, I think we need to know if this type of living, helps the elderly anot. If they stay there unhappy with the place, why pay more also.

I can only think of a group of old buddies all say since no kids or whatsoever, and we are all buddies, might as well stay together, play mahjong, play poker, watch movie and kill time. Instead of travel all the way to chinatown and meet them. Then i think this one make sense.

Saint Bernadette serves clients without major illnesses.

All clients just need someone to take care of them.

There are a number of their homes around the island.

Their price is mid tier.

The interesting part of this video is how those senior citizens that fall in between the cracks get neglected by our current policies.

I think Community Care Apartments sort of address that?

There's a high-end one in Venus Drive. One review mentioned $4K a week. My in-laws stayed 3 months in Econ Home in Perling, Johor after MIL fractured hip bone. Owned by SG company; no complaints.

Current stage cca like not very popular

lao lang very resistant to move and give up their current bigger property

personally I think it is a very good and cheap option as alternative to nursing home

i think they might be scaling this back for lack of demand

😬

Where we go to die, out of sight out of mind.

It misnamed as elderly home.

We must plan for our end for tgose who cannot...others send them to elderly home.

Should not the focus be on creating a support/resource pooling environment to gently and respectfully treat our own.

A communistic sharing, say group work with the govt as facilitator.

We all have to work but if we share the load amongst a few lone rangers... that is we have one set of natural parents and maybe 5 more sets of adoptive parents...

I can think of a Koh Poh Koon moment.
