Anyone have tried 0W-40 engine oil? any positive feedback?

Same brand,

0w flows faster than 5w - better startup protection.

0w may have lower HTHS than 5w - better FC. Higher HTHS better protection.

Quite sometime ago, used 0w on an old engine - more responsive revving but a slight bit more noise.

0w40 5w40 10w40 are all the for weather condition simply say that no different if you are driving in singapore

0w & 5w could be Grade IV oil

10w has high probability that it is Grade III oil

I bought the 9000-series 5w50. Have not tried but heard good reviews.

I think the 7000 is a semi-syn

Racing oil ?

The TBN is 7.1 - maybe suitable for 5k OCI.

Previously I used the 9000 5w40 - really thick !

branded as a racing oil but not a true hard core racing oil. It still has detergents. Some proper racing oils are pure anti-wear, no/minimal detergent.

40 weight not suitable for my ride.

yeah my OCI is 5k anyway.

I am using Mobil 0w40 too.

The brand of the engine oil would matter more than the grade in my honest opinion.

the sch 9000 5w40 and 50 are diesel oils, very thick

Not really, this batch of Schaeffer #9000 fully syn 5w40 are tested at 13.7cSt@100'c while #9000 5w50 at 18.17cSt@100'c. Mobil 1 0w40 are around 13.5cSt so it's pretty similar in viscosity compare to Schaeffer, oh, they update their packaging to this also.

`

I have been using 7000 previously with 10k oil change interval.

Then Amazon started shipping to SG. I switched.

Will go back to 7000 again.

We got their first batch of the new packaging bottle, so new that they haven't update their website yet but it think Schaeffer going to update their website soon.

To answer your question on 0w40.

Fuel efficiency point of view:

If all else being equal, 0w will give better flow rate during start up compare to 5w and 5w will flow better compare to 10w and so on. These generally will translate into better fuel efficiency within that viscosity (for example w40 oil) but a 0w40 will never be more efficient than a 5w30 and a 0w30 will never be as efficient as a 5w20.

Protection point of view:

If all else being equal, the higher the HTHS@150'c viscosity the better is the hydrodynamic lubrication but that's disregarding the boundary and elastohydrodynamic regimes of lubrication. The quality of the anti-wear additives will critically affect these 2 regimes of lubrication, that why choosing branded engine oil with advance additives package are important then repackage generic brand with cheap unknown additives package.

So there's actually no best oil for all, you have to know what you are trying to achieve like best FC or best protection? like one of the Bitog forumers has said, i quote "the ideal oil are as light as possible but just as thick as necessary".

No need, Schaeffer engine oil itself already have all the necessary anti-wear additives.
