Advice needed on Car Aircon

My car going to due in Dec 2015 and currently hunting a new car now ....

Aircon start giving me problem last month, cool air instead of cold air blowing out.

Went to see the "MCF recommended" aircon specialist in the north and was told compressor going to kaput.

I was quoted $600-$700 for the compressor and decided just to top up aircon gas.

After topping up the aircon gas, aircon is back back to norm until today.

Went to seek 2nd opinion from another workshop in the north, this time was told the cooling coil leak and need to change else compressor will sure die soon.

is it the compressor or cooling coil causing the problem or worst both need to change.

Do you think my aircon able to "tong" for 4-5 months by just topping up aircon gas every month?

If topping up of refrigerant and aircon is back to normal for nearly a month, the compressor is ok for now. Most likely there's a slow leak at the cooling coil. If you have no intention to renew COE, try to repair if not feasible, change a recon unit.

Recently the compressor is totally dead. Replaced the compressor at Tomika at Ubi for $642.

Now, 2 weeks plus later, the compressor again same problem. It drags the engine power and produce very loud sound when you step on the accelerator. If you switch off the aircon, the such sound disappear. This is the symptom of compressor faulty. It will be totally not working in few days just like the old compressor had gone through.

Now you may ask how can a newly replaced compressor became faulty again in 2 weeks! I begin to suspect the compressor replaced into my car is not new compressor.

Going to bring back to them and I suspect they may ask to change more things and charge more.

My 8.5 year old aircon was blowing hot & cold air. After checking many places, mostly advise to change new compressor. Went to JB look for Malayan Car Cooler, opposite Giant Bukit Indah, friend's recommendation. The owner/boss check and say replace a (used) compressor magnet cost me RM350 including some washing & gas.

They have lots of USED or re-con "parts" and boss very honest, recommend to replace with USED part/s instead of changing new, as I told him my car only 1 year to scrap. Simple workshop but seems like lots of long term customers drive-in, so have to wait a bit cos only 1 staff and boss doing everything.

So far, 6 months already, aircon SUPER COLD.. no problem at all [thumbsup]

Toyota wish. You have lobang in boleh land ? I'm fine if below SGD $300.

Where to find an aircon compressor below $300 Sing in JB ?  :a-noway:

Even a used one also cost slightly more than that in JB.  -_-

A lot of unscrupulous mechanics and workshops are out to rip customers off nowadays, I'm not surprised by your outcome, do stand firm and demand for a new compressor from them otherwise threaten them with CASE.

I no longer trust the local workshops anymore, you can hardly find a good and honest mechanic nowadays.

For aircon, best go back to agent. Even those recommended ws outside hard to trust
