In his tweet saying Iran wasn’t seeking escalation or war, Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, further described the Iranian strike as measured. “Iran took & concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens & senior officials were launched,” he wrote.

I dont think Iran can go to war. They just dont have the financial means. After the Iran Islamic Revolution the US already rain down sanctions on them. In other words which ever company tries to trade with them or buy stuff from Iran thy will be fined millions of US dollars or get thrown in jail. In terms of trade they are isolated.

Then there's the long Iran-Iraq war from 1980-1988 which financially drained the two countries. When Iran tried to go nuclear the US and its European allies rain down more sanctions. It lifted for a while and then it's back on when Trump walked away from the deal.

They can do proxy wars like recent ones in Syria but not full on war with the US. Although they are rich in oil the sanctions made them poor. No money means no full on war.

You see them like very poor thing. Cant even import a Toyota car into the country because of the sanctions. So they have to manufacture and make their own cars.

despite the sanctions china is buying even more oil from iran. 

maybe the ultimate purpose aim of US  is to hurt or stop this trade.

iran may not have the financial power to go for full scale war but don't under estimate

the damage that US will get...it can be more scary than a full scale war.

we just have to be very careful and stay away as far as possible, it is the problem between

US and Iran.
